Vicky's last dance...

A week on from beating Portishead Town Ladies. QPR Women were back in FAWNL Plate action, with an away trip to Billericay Town Women in the next round. Taking place this Sunday afternoon. Adding additional emotion to the fixture. Rs captain Vicky Grieve announced her plan to depart the club come full time. Leaving supporters saddened by the news, making her final appearance more important than the score. Against an impressive team in the league above.

Starting this afternoon’s affair. The host had the kick off. Creating the first chance in the opening exchanges, as they went down the right-hand side. Seeing the ball roll out for a throw in. Before quickly being back in possession. This time blocked by the QPR backline. Up the other end, Kasha Petit cut away from the pack. Picking out the R’s opening opportunity with a scooped effort into the net. Offside calling the goal off. A second go at goal for the host tested their opposition. However, play broke down before it could take them ahead. Switching the play. Billericay built more and more dominance in this match. Managing to pin back the visiting players, as they looked to break the deadlock. Slippery conditions in the snow making passing difficult for both teams. Narrowly missing the target, the home side could have scored. If not for an attempt which skimmed across the goal. Not long later. They had a penalty. Lucy Jones taking them in front, after finishing from twelve yards, on fifteen minutes. Doubling their tally. Billericay were back in the final third. Coming in to capitalise from close range. Play proceeded passing movement across the pitch. Running down the right-hand side, Ruby Seely soon added a third. Simple ending having beaten Ailish Carolan for speed. Getting further in front. Zoe Rushden converted at fourth. Twisting past a defender, her teammate duked the R’s. Leaving her to tap in the rebound. Within a minute. Milly Cutler pulled one back for the visitors. Chance created by Katie Akerman, allowing the forward to fire home. Ruby Seely increased her total for today with her second. Making an immediate move from kick off.

Getting the second half underway. A pop shot for Katie Akerman was the first chance. Going out for a goal kick, flying past the keeper. Not testing her. Coming down within a minute. Milly Cutler offered an inviting cross. No teammates placed inside the area for an easy finish. Ending with possession being lost. Fizzling out, the match became stale for a period of time. Back and forth football leading to nothing. Ailish Carolan’s throw ins offering the most excitement for spectators this afternoon. From a free kick, QPR got their second goal. Lovely finish from Lauren Jordinson. Latching on to a in swinging cross. The R’s organised perfectly to execute the attack. Intercepting incredibly Brogan Moore managed to break down the host next chance. Passing out wide to Katie Akerman, who was not able to reach the ball. Before it went out for a throw in. Shooting from distance a simple save was next for the Billericay shot stopper. Passing around the back, the host forced their opposition to adventure deeper. Clear calls from coaching staff could be heard. Scoring a sixth. Zoe Rushden done even more damage. Against a tiring R’s team, after long journeys to Essex. Melanie Hall had a marvellous hit to take the visitors tally to three. Lifting an effort over the keeper, and into the back of the net. Certainly, one to be considered for goal of the season. Despite the score line which stood as it went in.
