On Tuesday QPR Women once more headed for the Meadow. Taking on Chesham United Ladies in the Combined counties women’s midweek cup. Having already played this opposition twice in recent weeks.
Starting this evening’s opportunities. Chesham came away with the first chance in the initial exchanges. Caught by Mya Francis Powell with ease. Shortly followed by an Rs go at goal, getting a header on from a free kick. Going wide. Gaining space Qpr Women won a throw in deep. Making its way into the area, slapped astray with power. Running through the box, the host had an attempt. The visiting keeper was forced to make a low save before another effort clanged the bar. Coming out for a tap in which got cleared just in time. A perfect pass by Katie Akerman created the next opportunity. Skied high and wide. Taking the lead. Melanie hall ended a period of home dominance, getting the ball into the back of the net. Putting her body on the line the Chesham defender chased Melanie Hall to give away a corner. Sending in a cross Ellen Wardlaw couldn’t find a teammate. Trying again within a minute, she managed to force a punch over the bar, picking up another corner. A triple opportunity opened up for the guest. Each caught by the host side shot stopper. Chesham having one more go, wrapped around the post. Before the half time break.
Getting the second period underway. The Rs began the better. Battering their opposition in possession. Picking out chances in the final third. Unable to apply an end product. Having an attempt, the host accelerated down the right-hand side. Swinging an effort high and wide. Halting play Mya Francis Powell managed to reach a loose pass. Pumping into the advancing attacker, who went down claiming a head injury. Creating vocal tension from a supporter situated behind the goal. From a free kick Chesham scuppered their next go at goal. Unable to keep them out any longer. The host had finally found the back of the net. Tapping in on their third chance of the sequence. Splitting defenders Chesham took a surprise lead. Superb shot perfectly placed into the net. Deserving of a third, the home side had a delightful ball test the Rs keeper, luckily, going wide. Thumping the wood work twice the R’s saw out the outing by failing to find the back of the net. Arguably their worst performance all season.
