Up for the cup!

Sunday saw QPR Women in cup action once more. This time hosting Enfield Town Ladies at Harlington, for a capital cup fixture. After poor weather conditions during the week ruled out the r’s normal home stadium.

Starting this afternoon’s affair. QPR Women had the opening opportunity. Laure Hennessey letting fly, flinging an effort onto the wood work. After brilliant hold up play by Kasha Petit kept the ball just outside the box. Breaking the deadlock, Katie Akerman connected with a pass. Shooting from distance. High and above the keeper, clanging into the back of the net. Looking lively down the right-hand side, Alice Curr saw space open up in the final third. Blocked by the Enfield defenders. Weaving a wonderful through ball. Ellie Searle had equal opportunity on the left. Narrowly being beaten for speed, by a superbly hit ball. Enfield then had their first chance. Embarking on the box only to hit the effort wayward. Cutting out an opposition counter attack, Melanie Hall made a magnificent curling challenge. Putting the play out for a throw. Continuing their fine beginning. The R’s dominated the day. Unable to score despite superb chances, created throughout the team. Doubling their tally for today. It was the turn of Kasha Petit. Pinpoint perfect strike slapping into the goal. Scoring a screamer, the Qpr superstar. having shot from distance. Pulling one back before the break. Chloe Gunn gave away a penalty, which was converted by the visitors. Finding the bottom left-hand corner from twelve yards. Keeping up the incredible tempo. QPR Women had chance after chance leading up to half time. None closer than Katie Akerman, as her attempt went over the bar. Closely followed by a Milly Cutler effort high and wide.

Getting the second half underway. The visitors began with a bang. Venturing forward on multiple occasions, finding space between the ranger’s backline. Almost grabbing a goal having rounded the keeper. If not for a remarkable recovery by Ailish Carolan. Not long later leathered away by Lauren Jordinson. Opening their second half account, the home side squandered a chance. Up the other end, Enfield had other ideas, attacking with pace and purpose. Cut out by comfortable catches from Katie McLean in the goal. Running down the right side. Alice curr bombed down the wing, beating the defenders with skill, sending in a cross. Landing simply in the travelling teams shot stoppers hands. Remaining resilient. The host had Milly Cutler in on goal. Converting from close range, past the lowly placed keeper. Who got subbed off after the situation. Ending the affair, Ellie Searle added a fourth. Excellent movement by the future England international.
