Underperforming U23s again!

With the first team away in Sheffield, ahead of a fixture against united on Tuesday evening. The under 23s took centre stage in West London. As they hosted their blades counterparts. For a Professional Development League Two fixture. A first meeting between the sides this season.

The Rs kicked off this afternoon’s match by immediately giving away the ball. Before the first chance of the game fell to the guest. As a throw in sent them through on goal, but was caught by the young QPR keeper. Moments after the host reacted. Playing a long ball over the top, just missing the advancing player. Offside coming to Queens Park Rangers rescue following a quick counter attack. Clever passing between home sides players opened up the pitch for Bettache, firing narrowly wide of the post. Poorly clearing a corner, Qpr handed possession back to their opponents. Who volleyed an effort into a defender on its way to out for another corner. Looking to take the lead, Sheffield United smashed a ball into the loft stand. Shooting from distance. Coming close to breaking the deadlock, the visitors were through on goal. Quick movement saw them find a gap in the host defence. Harry Halwax rushing out to avert danger at the last minute. Finding the opening goal, Sheffield United scored. As a result of QPR not marking the fast-approaching fullback. Who skilfully beat his opposite number, before wrapping a shot past the keeper and into the back of the net. Searching a leveller, the Rs released the ball quickly from kick off. Ending with a cross caught by the travelling keeper, having been sent in from the edge of the box. A perfectly timed sliding challenge prevented the Yorkshire side doubling their lead. Having met the end of a pass, deep in the QPR half. Sheffield’s slow sideways transitions saw them have the final chances of the half. Initially forcing a low save, from a powerful shot at the far post.

Starting the second half, the visitors pinned the home side into the corner. Forcing a long ball out from the back. Minutes before a poorly hit through pass rolled out for a goal kick. One two passing created the next opportunity. Leaving the travelling player to put the ball into the keepers’ hands, from very close range. Soon followed by a powerful effort which rattled off the post. Finding space Sheffield United put in a cross, winning a corner. After back-to-back attempts at goal. Fizzling the ball across the box the visitors could have had another. Not met by anyone, on the edge of the six-yard box. The match was brought to a halt as medical staff entered the pitch. Trying to help the Sheffield United keeper, who went down on the edge of his box. Despite play being in the other side of the ground. Weaving into the box, the guest had two more chances. Putting the second miles over the bar. Pedder then made a short pass set up a cross for the Rs, which ended up swinging out. After being caught in the wind. Qpr improving as the game drew to a close.

In conclusion the West London club continued their run of poor academy performances. Adding another loss to the season, which has been a disaster. Ranging from B team all the way down to the under 18s. A serious reform is needed.
