Two points dropped...

For their fourth and final consecutive away fixture. QPR Women made the journey to Cambridge United. The match being played out at St Neots Town, whilst the clubs reserve side met on an adjacent pitch. Ruining the chance of a double header. Which would have given the reserves the support they deserved. Last time out, the R’s saw a dominant victory. Winning by four goals to nil. Scorers that afternoon were Victoria Grieve, Melanie Hall and a double from Demi Edwards.

The opening opportunity for today’s encounter came to the visitors. Ellie Searle shooting up the left-hand side of the pitch, sending in a cross. Caught by the keeper who went low to maintain possession. Up the other end. Cambridge United quickly continued with their first chance. Sending a shot wide of the post. Edging ever closer, Melanie Hall missed from close range. Before the home side secured space at the opposite end for a shot over the bar. Putting pressure on, Ellen Wardlaw backed into the host defenders, laying off a chance for Jo Blodgett. Failing to make it count. Despite an excellent run deep in the final third to engulf space. Breaking the deadlock Cambridge took the lead. Scoring at the back post, following a corner. Sammy Edgar the scorer on sixteen minutes. Shooting from distance QPR Women saw out the first half with a chance. Ellen Wardlaw attempting to be a provider once again.

A Cambridge United corner got the second half underway. Kept out the visitors, as they charged forward. Only to be met by a firm midfield line. Attempting an ambitious curl, Ellen Wardlaw couldn’t find the back of the net, going out for a goal kick. Exciting away supporters Ellen was at it again. Holding of two defenders, as teammates descended on the final third. Dropping the ball at the feet of Jo Blodgett. Unable to shoot from short range due to a crowded area. The home side had the proceeding passage of play, an awful attempt at attacking. Ending up with a wayward shot into the stands. Keeper Katie McLean yet to be tested this half. Working a one two Brogan Moore made an instant impact. Having come on as a substitute not long before. Trying to take a way into the game, Blodgett was back shooting. This time going wide of the post. For her first save of the period. Katie Mclean kept the host out, slapping a shot around the post, stunning supporters. Levelling the score Emilia Nygaard Parsons lifted the mood. Picking out a corner of the net, fabulously finishing a Brogan Moore cross. Still searching for more QPR Women were on the front foot. Fast paced tempo taking them into the box, where Emilia was unable to end a fine move. Being beaten for pass by the ball. Looking for a lob Leys went over. Proving to be the R’s final attempt, shortly followed by a shot by the host. Who somehow managed to make the most out of a poor cross. A valiant volley narrowly missing the target.
