This Tuesday evening Merthyr made another trip to London. Only a week on from visiting Hanwell town. This time taking on Hendon, at silver jubilee park. Arriving late, leading to a heavily delayed kick off.
Starting this evening’s affair. The host had put on pressure in the early exchanges. Playing it into the final third, they searched for space, seeing their first shot come back to them. Before being dealt with by Jaime Cogman in the visitor’s goal. Carrying on their flying start. A second shot followed. This time going wide. Up the other end, Merthyr made their opening opportunity. Missing the target. Creating their next chance from a corner. The martyrs managed to stay in the final third. Taking a corner, then a throw for their efforts. Back in driving control. The home side drove forward. Forcing the travelling team shot stopper into a low save, which saw them earn a corner of their own. Soon to be cleared by the Merthyr centre backs. Operating effectively, Hendon efficiently engulfed space down the side. Seeing their next attempt denied by Noah. Not long later proceeded by dominant play. Breaking the dead lock, Liam brooks scored a screamer. Flying past the keeper and tucking into the net. To the cheer of home supporters. Keeping the score line small. Jaime Cogman categorically kept the host out on his own. Superb saves seeing out the half.
Getting the second half underway. Merthyr managed to have the first chance following the break. A brilliant corner put in, requiring two headers to be kept out. Seconds later followed by a fabulous hit. Clanging clearance as the visitors looked to be on the ascendancy. Winning a free kick, the martyrs worked their way forward once more, firing miles over the bar in the end. Playing up the pitch with good spells of possession. Merthyr made space on the edge of the area, after an impressive one two cut past centre midfielders. Stopped in a subpar manor thanks to a mix up in roles. Crossing into the keeper hands, the Hendon shot stopper had a simple save to make. Reacting remarkably. Hendon launched an epic charge. Coming close to a second, the home side soared into the box. Build up play being wasted when an awful attempt went high and wide. Still searching for equaliser. Merthyr had even more chances. Proving to not be profitable, as the energy was starting to fade. The guest failing to provide a burst to break away at passed as they usually do. Seeming to target a second half clean sheet. Jaime Cogman made some sublime stops. Levelling the score late on, the guest finally got their goal. Slotting home from super close range. Tapping it in on the line. After a cross came into the back post. Before being slid across for simple finish. Frazier Thomas the scorer.
