The Spelthorne Sports shock...

Just like the opening week of our pre-season schedule Harrow Borough played two games within the space of forty-eight hours. Having faced Potters Bar Town FC away on Tuesday night the reds looked to improve results this July, following disappointing performances in the past few weeks. Located near last Saturday’s opponents’ supporters made journey towards Heathrow Airport once again. In our last meeting at the Royal Holloway University sports ground Harrow walked away with a convincing 3-1 result, goals that day included a penalty from Frank Kieta and finishes from Ant O Connor as well as Charlie Malin, with the latter not featuring for the club for much longer after that.

For the third consecutive game Harrow Borough did not appear prepared for this fixture, this time seeming the worst of all. The only action seen in the first half was the opening goal at the sports club. A scramble in the box left the reds keeper very little chance of making a save. Kani being their goal scorer. Failure to move the ball forward meant no sight of an equaliser from the Borough boys, creating frustration for the travelling supporters.

As half time approached fans were eager to see what changes will be made to improve our fortunes. However, this break proved to create more concern, allowing those inside the extremely basic ground to look back on the initial exchanges from tonight’s teams. The inability to make simple passes and deliver set pieces being the key point noticed. Not long into the second half the host saw an excellent strike rifle into the back of the net giving fans something to clap about. The goal was created from a defensive error by a Borough player, who decided against making a simple pass out wide to George Moore allowing ‘Tinny’ to score increasing our oppositions lead. A lucky bounce gave Spelthorne Sports an even bigger lead against Harrow this evening. An easy goal which came right before full time.

From this evening’s game signs are showing that as pre-season carries on, we seem to get worse and worse each time. Hopeless from minute one. Following a run of away games Harrow Borough were scheduled to continue their pre-season campaign at home against Uxbridge FC, however this game has been called off. Uxbridge will now face AFC Hayes whilst we are left to look for new opposition. Supporters will be looking to see another great game at the fantastic Earlsmead stadium after a long period away if a game is able to be organised at such short notice.
