Inspired by the signing of Reece Grego Cox another trip to the Hive was on the cards. Watching Barnet fc for the first time this season, having seen Spurs Women and London bees on previous visits. Going into this match the host were beaten by Notts County. Losing by five goals. Tonight’s visitors, Kings Lynn Town saw Saturday’s match against Bromley postponed.
Opening this evening’s affair was a lashed effort from McGavin on three minutes. Having found himself in possession, allowing a shot over the bar. Reece Grego Cox found Adam Marriott with a pass a minute later. But Kings Lynn were able to get it clear, when Josh Coulson made contact with the ball following a sliding challenge. The next chance fell to the visitors. Cameron Hargreaves heading over the bar, from a cross into the box. Forcing Oxborough into another save was Josh Barret. Shooting from outside the box on eight minutes. Finally having their second chance, the host went close through De Haviland’s corner. A clearance on the line keeping the score level after sixteen minutes. Going forward again Grego Cox made a darting run towards the Linnets box. His shot being narrowly tipped over the bar, after Paul Jones was able to apply a touch. Cleverly manipulating the ball, Mason Clark almost gave Barnet the lead. Setting up an overhead kick which he fired into the keepers’ hands. Kings Lynn regained control of the fixture as they saw out the rest of the first half. Theo Widdrington coming the closest to breaking the deadlock, when he sent a low shot towards goal on twenty-three minutes.
At the break the guest dominated possession, but it was the home side who had the better of the chances. When play resumed Barnet had the first chance. Within three minutes of kick off, Teddy Howe smacked a shot into Jones. Before Mason Clark increased the shots on target tally when he fired into the side netting. Another fantastic save from Jones kept Grego Cox out on fifty-two minutes. Equally matched by Oxborough’s dramatic dive to keep Barret out eight minutes later. As the half went on, Kings Lynn applied more and more pressure. Breaking away down the wing they saw the offside flag raised. Substitute Daniel Powell made a quick impact after making his way onto the pitch. Coming close to opening scoring, when he shot narrowly wide of the post. Unable to create many chances Barnet made the most out of the ones they had. Mason Clark saw his effort hit the travelling keepers’ legs on eighty-two minutes. Deep in the Norfolk based sides half, Powell looked a positive influence. Lifting the tempo and carrying the ball well for his team. Sadly, not being able to give the host three points point.
In conclusion this match demonstrated why both sides are where they are in the table for a reason. Neither being able to find the net, in a must win game. Daniel Powell looking a level above the rest. Dire times could be coming for both clubs. Possibly seeing Barnet end up in the same division as local rivals Harrow Borough.
