Ten for the tally!

North Greenford hosted Leverstock Green this Tuesday evening. As a heatwave meant many matches were moved, a bigger crowd made their way to Berkley fields. In a fixture which saw extreme sun and rain. Giving supporters a cool breeze, after a hot day leading up to the game.

Starting the tie with a fast tempo. Both sides had early opportunities, equally cleared by the teams back line. Deep in their respective area. North Greenford being the first to test their opposing keeper. Picking up possession out wide, putting a cross into the box. Met by a shot which was tipped over the bar. Shortly followed by a Joe Mills delivery. Reaching the opposite end of the final third. Taking the lead, the host had the first goal of the night. Finding the back of the net with a header at the back post. Causing a collision with the scorer and the post. Quickly continued with a second, as Joe Mills doubled the margin. Smashing a shot in from inside the box. Pulling one back. Leverstock grabbed themselves a goal. However, a third for the home team came not long later. Rifling into the roof of the net, having had a powerful hit. Taking the tally up to four. Joe Mills had his second of the evening. Darting into the box, alongside an accompanying teammate. Before a fifth came after a period of back and forth. Landing in the far post bottom corner, Harvey curled an effort. Searching for more. A sixth looked certain. Narrowly wide, to the keeper’s relief. Twice within a five-minute period. Against the run of play the guest had another. Hitting and hoping from distance.

Getting the second half underway was a backwards pass. Allowing both teams to get back into the game, under a heavy downpour of rain. Growing as the game went on. A long ball was sent goal bound by the visitors, falling at the keepers’ feet, cleared comfortably. Distributing a pass, North Greenford’s fullback was able to advance. Staying tight to the touchline luck run out as they gave away a throw. Proceeded by the home sides first chance of the period. Slotting a through ball across the floor. Temporarily pausing the match, a free kick was ordered. Discussion as to the routine holding the match for a moment. Getting another goal, Greenford found the net, converting from close range. Despite confusion of if it spread across the line. Playing with purpose. The host went further up the field. Earning a corner for their efforts, coming to nothing. Holding off opponents effectively. Leverstock Green gained space, letting a left winger roam freely in the final third. Slipping in wet conditions causing an injury. Stopping the affair shortly, as he searched for help from medical staff. Offside came to the visitors rescue when play resumed. Greenford creating a chance, regaining control in the middle of the pitch. Picking out a pinpoint placed player. The guest had the next chance. Heading wide of the post. Scoring in the most unlikely of situations. North Greenford secured a seventh. Popping a placed attempt into the corner. Dropping the ball as the game drew to a close, Leverstock Greens shot stopper spilled a shot. Leaving the attacking options to take advantage from the goal line. Giving the supporters a tenth in their total seen. Ending in an outstanding fashion. A fantastic save was made, by the home keeper.
