With the league season not too far away, QPR Women returned to action with supporters being allowed in the ground. For this fixture the R’s made the trip to the Ystrad Mynach sporting centre of excellence to take on Cardiff City Ladies. Kicking off at 2pm new signings Katie McLean, Emilia Nygaard Parsons and Danielle Maloney had a chance to impress manager Steve Quashie, before the season opener against Stevenage Women. Going into the fixture I spoke to Cardiff City Ladies manager James Fishok who said ‘We appreciate QPR travelling down to us for the game, From our point of view it’s all about minutes in the legs of our players. We have some new players making their first appearance, which is always exciting and some girls who are trialling for us. I’m excited to see some new combinations and as long as we come out of the game with no injuries and a good performance, then I’ll be happy’ when said how he thinks the game will play out. Thank you to James for taking time to speak to me and I’d like to wish him all the best for the season.
Having arrived in sunny South Wales QPR Women seemed ready to go, with smiles-all around the squad. Including our latest additions. The fixture began with a competitive edge. Both sides looked brilliant on the ball, passing it at fast speed. A lot of pace amongst all 22 on the pitch. The R’s took the lead after a perfectly threaded through ball. Very well-placed shot. QPR soon after doubled their lead following a rebounded shot. Erin Pope gets the goal! However, this caused a shock for the host who came alive as soon as play resumed. just like our first goal Cardiff get their opener with a slotted finish. Corey Williams gets the South Wales sides goal!
Going into half time the visitors were winning in Wales. Very good start by the Rs giving them well earned goals, hopefully more of the same in the second period. After the break the travelling team were the first to find the net. Erin Pope gets her seconded of the afternoon, a penalty being the method this time out. Looking comfortable for the team in red this afternoon. The ball bobbled around before Emilia Parsons sliced it into the bottom of the net increasing the lead even more for QPR. Then the conclusion to a cracking game came. Would like to thank James Fishok, and all at Cardiff City Ladies for their hospitality this afternoon. Great club!
