For the first time in a long while I made the short journey to White City for a game, returning home to the stands of Loftus Road. After a period away supporters were able to watch Queens Park Rangers at their own ground without any restrictions. Today’s opponents Manchester United come into the fixture of the back of a game against Derby County, who are managed by former red and club legend Wayne Rooney. Before this difficult outing the R’s have not played any pre-season games of note as a result of COVID cancelling their away trip to Gillingham. QPR first team player Albert Adomah returned to the club that he began his career with on Wednesday evening, giving him a twenty-minute run out against Harrow Borough. The use of digital ticketing came into full effect in the build-up to this game causing anger for supporters who are against the modernisation of football. Very off-putting.
Before kick-off Queens Park Rangers announced the signing of Stefan Johansen, pleasing all spectators inside the ground and R’s fans across the world. When the game started United took the lead through Lingard in the 3rd minute following a threaded ball into the box which he converted. Charlie Austin levelled the game only minutes later A Fantastic cross and an even better finish in the 7th minute gives QPR fans a goal to cheer. This game went in all even at the break. Very convincing Rs performance against a top side, who are competing for the premiership title. Visiting fans spent the half signing about the death of their owners… disgusting behaviour from the travelling supporters.
After a break from a extremely entertaining first period the host take the lead against the northern side, thanks to a perfectly hit shot from Lyndon Dykes. The ball slamming into the back of the goa! QPR increased their lead with an incredible strike from trialist Moses Odubajo, who came in from the right-hand side before finding the back of the net. What a game! What a goal! Soon after the gap rises with a similar goal coming from Dykes. His second of the afternoon. Fans in the school end of the ground started to show discomfort with how their club was being controlled once again as chants about the dying of their owner grew louder, in between chants about Manchester City and Leeds United. Embarrassing from the guest. No one expected it. With the clock ticking down the R’s slowed down the pace of the game completely, retaining possession of the ball for long periods at a time. Young reds Player Elanga managed to pull a goal back for the visitors as a result of a lack of urgency from the home side, but this was not met with celebration by the away fans.
Following the final goal of the afternoon both teams seemed exhausted. High temperatures meant players on each side were not willing to continue at the pace in which the rest of the game has been. Full time quickly arrived allowing R’s fans to celebrate an unlikely win, and Manchester united fans being able to make their way home across London after a disappointing game for them.
Is this the start of a promotion campaign?
