Southampton WFC sneak a win!

For their final pre-season preparations. QPR Women welcomed Southampton to West London. The match being played at the host former training ground, which now seems to be being used by Sutton United. As indicated by signs on the entrance to the facility. Where the warm weather conditions had a toll on everyone on site.


Within a minute the visitors went ahead. Slow passing around the back, opening up space out wide. Instantly finding the net from inside the final third. Shot slotting past Katie McLean at the far post. Repeating the same routine. Southampton situated themselves on the wing. The host cutting out danger, at the second time of asking. On the attack. The Rs were let down by a poor pass, giving away possession. Leading to a chance that did not come to anything. An injury to the guest halted play, medical staff making their way onto the pitch, whilst the player remained grounded. One two worked QPR women into an advanced position. However, a strong save kept them out. Jo Blodgett was next to shoot. Hitting her attempt from outside the area. Making a break through, the travelling team turned up in the box. Putting pressure on, Ellie Searle sealed the angle, player poorly finishing. Katie McLean with a comfortable catch. A foul on Erin Pope won the host a free kick. Going directly at the keeper, having been hoofed from distance. Before a water break allowed both sides to walk over for a moments rest. Starting again sharply, Southampton came close to a second. Clearance from Vicky Grieve at centre back dealing with the danger. From a corner the visitors were at it again. Once more kept out by the inform Rs shot stopper. Stunning supporters Katie followed up with a superb save. Reaching a roaring effort heading for the top corner. Proceeded by a home chance. Erin pope clanging a shot onto the crossbar.


Getting the second period underway. A back-and-forth affair played out after half time. Neither side able to make it past the centre circle, seeing their pass patterns blocked. Running through a range of plans. Southampton were unsuccessful in getting in at goal. QPR Women working well as a unit, taking charge of the game. Having come on, Kasha Petit made a perfect start to her game, sending a cross into the box. Sneaking further up the field. The south coast side took a throw. Brilliantly battered away by Maloney, who also made her way onto the pitch. Luckily. New right back Lauren was in the box, coming from a corner, creating a chance. Keeper pushing it away. Making a move from midfield. Brogan Moore managed to find the ball at her feet. Looking for a teammate as she launched a delivery in. Roaming around Kasha Petit picked up a pocket of the box. Smacking a shot at the keeper, who subsequently saved. Still searching for an equaliser. Melanie Hall got more involved, trickling a pass through. Caught as the keeper came out. A terrific touch allowed Brogan to control a cross, fabulous footwork making a move. Chance squandered in the corner. Cutting passing lane, substitute Cutler dropped deep, slipping between centre midfielders. Launching a lobbed shot from left back. Mollie Dench’s effort dawned on the travelling shot stopper. Narrowly missing the target. Offside cancelling the forthcoming opportunity. Whitlock weaved the ball into the net, causing confusion in a crowded box, all left bamboozled if the goal stood. On the final moment of the match. Southampton finally had their second. Passage of play, permitting a finish
