Less than twenty-four hours after the iconic Fratton Park trip reality resumed. Making the journey up to the Hertfordshire FA’s ground, to see Queens Park Rangers Women take on Stevenage Women. In the WNL Plate. When the sides last met it was a R’s domination. Scoring six past their visitors that day, starting the season with a bang. Going into this game the guest have had a two-week break, due to the cancellation of their fixture against Hashtag United.
Kicking off twenty minutes late due to a nose piercing incident the Rs finally got underway. Early on Erin Pope saw an effort go just past the post, as she took on the keeper one on one. Laura Hennessey broke the deadlock soon after as she headed in Petits cross. After the player took the ball fantastically down the flank. Nineteen minutes gone and our host had their first attempt, heading wide from a corner. Nothing to worry about for QPR. Doubling their lead this afternoon was Erin Pope. Making up for her earlier miss. Thirty minutes in the star player hit the ball with the outside of her boot, smacking into the top left corner. Wonderful finish. Ellie Searle the provider from the left. Showing why she should play for England. In the Stevenage goal Oldroyd made a brilliant save, keeping Brogan Moore from scoring in the thirty-nineth minute.
Great half from QPR at the break. Performing very well in all areas of the pitch, and creating chances throughout. The team have been amazing. Special mention to Mya Francis Pownall on keeping a clean shirt in the opening forty-five minutes of her debut. Coming on at half time for the visitors was two subs, Edwards and Carolan. The first of which had a brilliant go at goal on the fiftieth minute. Unfortunately, Stevenage managed to pull a goal back. Confusion in the box lead to the ball ending up at the feet of Nebbit, who had a lovely finish find the net. Worryingly in the seventy second minute Demi Edwards had to be subbed off. Serious concern and panic took over the ground, our host not showing any support to the severity of the incident. Devasted for her. Back on the pitch the R’s got a third, Melanie Hall scoring in the eighty first minute. Lobbing the opposition keeper.
In conclusion the visitors had another good fixture against Stevenage. The match was never in doubt, and gave the team a good run out. Great to see different players scoring. However, upon arriving at the county ground I learnt it was free entry. Waste of a ticket bought, and questionable behaviour from the host. More importantly Id to take this chance to wish Demi Edwards a quick recovery.
