Loftus road hosted the league match between Queens Park Rangers women and Norwich City women. As it did for the final fixture of the previous campaign. Possibly breaking records, for an attendance at a R’s women’s fixture.
Norwich City started this match on the front foot. Having the first chance of the fixture, shortly followed by their second and third. A fourth came soon after. Katie Mclean clearing her lines as she rushed out of her goal. Up the other end, Rangers failed to break a way through. Being held by the visitors back line. Who stood firm and organised, working out their oppositions game plan. Just like many spectators in the stands. Emilia Nygaard Parsons coming the closest. Unable to control the ball, when she received a pass inside the box. Winning a throw for her efforts. Making a mistake the host almost gave away a goal. Katie McLean caught off her line, managing to reach out high to bat the ball away. Restarting well, the home side worked their way in the final third. However, couldn’t find the net. Despite the keeper dropping the ball in a crowded area. Edging ever closer, QPR were centimetres away from taking the lead. Slotting a low shot past the keeper. Narrowly missing the target as it went just around the post. Keeping their heads high, Melanie Hall curled a cross goal effort into the Norwich city box. Seeing it go over the crossbar. Shortly followed by the opening goal, the guest getting a scooped shot past Katie Mclean, Catherine Stanley the scorer. Looking for a way back Laura Hennessey launched a long shot. Free kick clanged off the post, to the disappointment of fans. Going into the break QPR Women were much the better team. Only lacking the final product.
Getting the second half underway was back and forth football. Before the host became more dominant, just missing at the far post, following a cross. Emilia Nygaard Parons the most likely player to put the ball into the net. Not long later the Rs were attacking again. Header going behind, after a remarkable run cut down space. Melanie Hall was also denied soon after. The Norwich shot stopper recovering to ramp up power to punch away. Which she also did, when tasked with a wonderful whack by the forward in the proceeding passage of play. Magnificent movement to reach the rounding attempt. Weaving around the area, QPR almost put one in as the game came to a close. However, the next goal would go the visitor’s way. Megan Todd getting on the scoresheet. Putting a placed pass into the net, coming down from a corner. Ending the game was an opportunity for the R’s. Second Half substitute Lauren Jordinson missing from near, after a header into the six-yard box feel to her feet.
