Queens Park Rangers Women hosted AFC Wimbledon Women this Sunday afternoon. Taking on their opposition, a week on from the original date. An alleged waterlogged pitch causing the postponement. Pushing back the plate encounter against Portishead Town Ladies. Now scheduled to take place on the sixth of November. Once more at the powerday stadium.
Starting this afternoon’s affair. The guest got the game going. Kicking off quickly, they looked for a ball out wide. Which was bravely blocked by their counterparts. QPR Women able to launch a counter attack. Coming down the left-hand side, Ellie Searle sent in a cross, caught by travelling team’s keeper. Taking the lead. Wimbledon had their first goal of the game on seven minutes. Finding the back of the net, heading home. Following a clearance from an initial effort. After Ashlee Hinks had made space for a cross. Doubling their tally in no time. The visitors ventured forward once more. Superb strike from distance, seeing it fly into the goal. Ashlee Hinks the scorer. Clanging onto the cross bar the home side sought a way back into the tie. Tipped over by the shot stopper, shot by Jo Blodgett just inside the area. Sinking supporters who believe they had seen their side score. Bringing the game to a halt Wimbledon worried about their fallen keeper. Before a Brogan Moore pop shot flew wide, only inches away, making the substitute between the sticks word. An inviting over the top ball was the R’s next opportunity. Kasha Petit plucking her attempt at the hands of the keeper.
Getting the second half underway. Wimbledon flew out of the changing rooms. Beating the host defenders, time and time again. Testing Katie McLean. Shortly followed by their third goal of the fixture. Simple shot past, having got into the final third. Ellie Dorey and Ashley Hinks linking up well to work the space. Heading wide, QPR Women were the better team in the proceeding play. Picking up a flurry of shots. Sadly, not on target. However, the tide of the game turned when a soft penalty was awarded. Taking a tumble inside the box the guest player conned the officials. Converting from the spot on twelve yards. Deserving more, Dons managed to dominate the rest of the remaining time. Crosses couldn’t be made contact with after being delivered. Trying to get a foothold. QPR Women tempted fate with a chance, finally seeing themselves in an attacking position, only to bounce back of the guest defender. Flinging into the side panels. Earning a throw in. Making back-to-back impressive saves. Katie McLean kept the score down for the meantime. Reaching left and right to wrap the ball around the post. Finding a fifth. Wimbledon scored again. Fabulous finish, flying into the goal at speed. Sinking R’s supporters. Slotting home six and seven, the visitors violently saw out the fixture. Slapping in shots from all angles. Without any prevention. QPR Women defenders stepping to high, opening up free areas to roam. Bringing little joy. Blodgett banged a volley away before full time. Awful afternoon in the office.
