Actonians hosted Selsey for their first pre-season fixture. The match taking place at Rectory Park, under the summer sun. In front of an initially small crowd. Which grew as the tie went on.
Kicking off the game. Actonians had the initial opportunity. Finding space on the wing, delivering a short cross, which was cleared by the visitor’s defender. Up the other end. Selsey had their first attempt. Shooting hopefully, going wide of the post. Leaving the host keeper unneeded to prevent a goal. Repeating their previous attack, Actonians were in the final third again. This time failing to reach the box. As the travelling centre back quickly acknowledged their game plan. Playing an inviting pass, mollie sent a looping ball over the top of the opposition. Aiming to land in the advancing attacker’s path. Going on to beat the player, on its way to end with a goal kick. Coming close to breaking the deadlock. Selsey Women had a creative chance. Powerfully putting a cross into the box, narrowly missing the target. Taking the lead Actonians scored through Sam Kahn. Picking up on a mistake at the back, after the guest made a mess of a previous transition. Having seen their counterparts drive into the area. Forcing a strong save. Selsey had the next chance, shooting from distance. Shortly followed by another attempt. Saved comfortably. Equalising just before the break, the visitors got their deserved goal. Weaving between the back line. A simple pass set up the leveller. Smashed low and hard, to the side of the home show stopper.
Getting the second half underway was a Actonians chance. Having won a free kick early on, following a lunging tackle. Guiding the ball over the bar. Which is identical to how their proceeding opportunity came. Not long after, a host player found themselves in miles of space. Sending their effort high and wide. Causing confusion, the home side took the lead again. Low cross into the box. Sent goal bound from deep in the opponents third. Coming off a defender’s foot, before being tapped into the back of the net. Brining the game to a halt. An injury raised concerns in the Selsey box, requiring the assistance of medical staff. Amongst heated words directed towards todays match official. Putting pressure Actonians went searching for another. Pressing high up the field, against fatigued opponents. Leading to a collision between two home players. Running rings around the West Londoners back line, Selsey had a final go at goal. Coming to nothing. Seeing out the fixture.
