Six goals shared

After back-to-back fixtures on the road, Queens Park Rangers Women returned home to the Powerday stadium. The visitors today being Kent United Football. Who currently are desperate for points, as they look beat the relegation drop. When the sides last met it was the Rs who walked away winners. A splendid second half hattrick from Erin Pope helping them on their visit to Glentworth Mans Club.

This afternoon’s fixture began with the host in full control of the opening proceedings. Stepping up first, Katie Akerman had the earliest attempt at goal. As she fired just wide of the post. Continuing QPR’s positive period of play, Ellie Searle made a darting run from the wing. Playing a ball across the box. But it was cleared from danger by the visitors, who had a centre back ready. Trying again the R’s pushed on. Brogan Moore carrying the ball up the field as she searched for a pass. Unfortunately, not able to find a teammate, as they created gaps between opposition defenders. Who started the movement for this games initial goal. Ami Martins on target for the travelling team. Taking lead, following a through ball from wide. Scoring in the R’s box with a poke around Lucie White.

When play resumed, it was QPR women who came out all guns blazing. Katie Mclean making a diving save to catch the ball, before a counter attack was launched. Falling to the feet of Melanie Hall. As she was quickly marked, leading to a throw in. Growing as the match went on QPR Women had a handful of chances. Forcing the visiting keeper in marvellous saves, including a lunging effort to smack the ball away from her goal mid-air. Equalising, Brogan Moore found the back of the net. Making the most out of chance created by Melanie Hall, as she hit a well struck effort. Moments before putting the host ahead. Having scored her second of the afternoon. Deep in the Kent United half, Ellie Searle applied a short cross. Tapping the ball past the keeper. Who was already on the ground. Allowing a simple finish to complete the transition. Emilia Nygaard Parsons making content with the ball as it crossed the line. A spectacular shot made the match even soon after. Shooting from distance, Kent United converted a long-range free kick. Aided by a bounce of the post which misguided Katie. In search of another goal to increase the margin, the home team urged on. Coming close when Emilia Nygaard Parsons broke away inside the box. Opting to make a pass, rather than convert from very close range. Facing the keeper once more Emilia was narrowly beaten for pace. Despite having travelled a distance to round the defender, and meet a pass from Ellie Searle. Showing an impressive bond between the players. However, it did not take long for QPR to be back in front. Coming off the bench Erin Pope made a brilliant impact. Getting her fourth goal of the season against Kent United, having bagged a hattrick at the away fixture. Curling a beautiful effort in at the post following a splendid shout for the pass. The final goal of the tie went to the guest. Scoring at the death. Catching QPR off guard, having just scored themselves.

In conclusion this match proved to be an end-to-end affair. Six goals shared between the teams, on what was a fairly even contest. Regardless of the late strike from the visitors. Setting up an interesting final run of games in the division.
