This evening the first match in the Anglo-Ukrainian friendly trophy played out. Taking place at Bedfont & Feltham football club, England fans hosted their eastern European counterparts. With donations going to the Poland/Ukrainian border on Tuesday evening. Thanks to manager Chris Moore and his team.
The match began with a chance for the visitors. A corner put into the box, was quickly cleared from danger. However, it was England fans who had most of the ball. Their first opportunity being a shot go wide of the post. Missing from close range, shortly before taking the lead. When a free kick found an unmarked player who converted. A second goal followed through a delightful strike in the box. Soon after, a third wad added. The advancing player poking the ball around the keeper. Thanks to a well-placed through ball, which made its way through. England carried on their high tempo as they searched for a fourth. Officials waving away a penalty appeal, following back-to-back fouls on the England forward. Shooting from distance three lions supporters ended action for the half.
Continuing their fine performance England dominated the opening exchanges of the second half. Two long shots being their initial opportunities. Looking stronger at the back, Ukraine fans held possessions better. But the home side picked up on lapses in concentration. Counter attacking at speed, in miles of space. A powerful strike added a fourth. Shooting from distance, he saw the ball fly past the keeper. Firing a free kick through the host box Ukraine had their next chance. Supporters expecting a goal, as a reaction erupted. Shouts for offside as Ukraine ran through were quickly forgotten, as a fight on the pitch grabbed people’s attention. Players seeming to forget it’s a charity match. Forcing the travelling keeper into a low save, England had the final chance. From a corner a pin point cross was put in. sadly not finding the net. Ending of the match for tonight.
In conclusion Friday nights football was a good show of solidarity from England fans. Something the world could do with more of, from people all over the planet. As always united against any form of discrimination or conflict.
