Shocking start.

In a strange turn of events. QPR Women were scheduled to play their opening four games away. The first of which, a trip to Cambridgeshire. Taking on Cambridge City Ladies at Ely City. Last time out, the Rs drew here. Two all the score that day. Demi Edwards unable to snatch victory late on.

Starting off the season. A chance fell to Ellie Searle, as she made an advancing run down the left-hand side. Seeing space, she embarked on the area for a cross. Blocked by a defender who stepped out of the host back line. Staying on the front foot, the Rs put a corner into the box. Coming to nothing after failing to be touched. Up the other end, Cambridge City came through on goal. Getting the opening goal. The home side scoring low inside the six-yard box. Making a superb save. Katie McLean kept out her opponents. Corner into the area, attacked with pace towards her. Catch in the centre of her goal. Pulling her foot back, Pope popped an effort. Going wide of the target. Trying again, Brogan Moore trickled one around the post, to Sarah Hudson’s relief. As the period came to a close. Cambridge City were given a penalty. Converting easily into the empty net.

Getting the second half underway. Electric Ellen Wardlaw excited the travelling supporters. QPR Women working a fantastic chance, in the early exchanges. Playing in from the right-hand side, the wonderful winger whipped a cross in, couldn’t find a teammate. Looking for a way back into the game. Brogan Moore and Melanie Hall built up play. Headed landing on Laura Hennessey’s feet, before a fast-approaching Sarah Hudson captured the ball. However, it not take long for the host to have another. Coming off the crossbar this time around. Diagonal ball, beating the visitors back line, bouncing over and into the net. In the final third the home side found space. Cutting inside to create a chance, which Katie McLean made an amazing save. Counter attacking allowed Cambridge City to add a fourth. Locating low into the near post, past the visiting shot stopper. Seeing some minutes off the bench. Emilla Nygaard Parsons had an immediate effect, having come on. Crossing into the danger zone. Deep in the final third. Also having an effect was Alice Curr. Who managed to find the back of the net, with a wonderful finish. Slotting to the side of Sarah Hudson, standing still in her goal, letting the score line get closer. Shortly followed by a second for the visitors. Parsons picking out a pocket of the goal. Following a corner which game in, crossed by Katie Ackerman. As the clock ran down. The Rs header hit the woodwork. Blodgett banging the ball, after a powerful push with her head.
