Off the back of two fantastic away wins Queens Park Rangers return home for another Sky Bet Championship game. This weekend’s fixture saw Barnsley make the journey down from Yorkshire for the early kick off, leaving travelling supporters with an earlier wake up time than usual. With it being the earliest match of the day fans were not able to make use of the iconic fan zone which is a key part of the build up for younger fans. Digital Ticketing was also in use this afternoon, forcing those attending to scan themselves through the turnstile. Even though it prevented entry for many against Millwall!
Starting off this fixture was an early effort from Woodrow which was ruled offside. Something that would prove to be a theme for the rest of the game. Barnsley took the lead in London thanks to a goal from Freiser, cutting into the box and running within close range of the keeper before putting the ball in the net. Tykes up in 13 minutes. The visitors then went on to have another shot a few minutes later but it went wide by a few inches. After his early miss Woodrow doubled their lead in the 26th minute giving those in the away stand a chance to relax. This ball was whipped in via a corner before coming out, only to be put back into the box then the net by the league proven forward. Rangers looked poor throughout the forty-five, rarely getting out of their own half. Willock seemed the only positive so far. Worrying signs!
As the teams made their way back out for the next half Jimmy Dunne came on for Jordy De Wijs, which was the host final subs after making two changes in the opening period. A crucial change. Lifeless QPR relied on new signing Johansen to make their chances, as a result of no other players giving him any options. Our next chance of note came from an Albert Adomah cross to Charlie Austin however the official flag was up, the start of many dreadful decisions by the refereeing team. With less than twenty minutes to go R’s star boy Ilas Chair finds the back of the net, brilliant strike from close range leaves the home side hopeful. We ‘R’ back in this game! Ilas soon after received a yellow card for a sliding tackle, leaving the midfielder very cautious for the reminder of the match. With the ninety almost up Barnsley gave the ball away. Willock broke in to the final third and sent Charlie on his way, now we have a two all draw. Fan favourite Austin found the net as a result of a swiped shot in the box that got the ground bouncing! Five minutes added time was played out before it was all over once more in W12 . Game ends as a draw, just like the fixture against Millwall. Overall, a deserved for both teams. QPR impressed after the introduction of Jimmy Dunne!
In conclusion shocking refereeing from all officials ruined what could be a good game. Standards need to improve, and fast. Wishing all Barnsley FC fans a safe journey home and thank you for visiting this afternoon.
