Run out for the reds!

Ahead of the new season a jampacked pre-season period awaited Harrow Borough players. Starting with a fixture away at London Colney. Kicking off at the earlier time of 1pm. Suiting groundhoppers, who looked to do multiple games.

Getting the tie underway was the reds. Making a forward pass, which was intercepted. Creating a heated midfield battle between the sides. Ending with the visitors having a goal kick to take. Playing with intensity, Harrow Borough won a corner. Effectively cleared by the oppositions defensive line. Switching the play. The guest created a wonderful chance, leading to an attempted overhead kick. Amounting to nothing. Sending a driven through pass George Moore released a wide player. On the wing, tricks helped the individual. Who weaved his way into the box. Before batting a cross into the final defender. On the front foot. The borough believed they had taken the lead in this afternoon’s fixture. Heading home from a corner, before the referee waved away the goal. Twisting and turning, George Moore caused a collision between two opposition players. Making his way out of a difficult situation. Allowing the visitors to advance up the pitch. Moments before Harrow broke the deadlock. This time counting. James Taylor the scorer. Having failed to test their guest, London Colney created their first chance. Staying tight to the touchline the winger looked for a teammate inside the box. Striking from distance the reds had a second. What a wonderful strike it was! Flying past the keeper, to the amazement of all spectators. Of which there was not many. Halting play the first water break was about to start. Resuming the game with a chance for the host, on twenty-seven minutes. Passing the ball across the six-yard box, for a shot into Lovre Drasic’s hands. Rattling the post. A third almost came for Harrow, as George Moore’s darting run dragged the team up the field. Horrific shooting sent the rebound wayward. Trying again, the third goal came. Rinsing defenders and midfielders George Moore lifted the reds into the final third. Setting up a fellow runner, for a simple finish into the net. Recovering well from a mistake. Harrow’s fullback for the first half made up for his error. Cleanly sweeping the ball out for a throw, as pressure began to build up. Searching for a way back into the match. London Colney was questionably awarded a free kick. Curling it around the post, not testing the young shot stopper between the sticks. From a difficult angle, Harrow had a fourth before the break. Beating the keeper at his near post. Shortly followed by a missed penalty.

Starting the second half. Harrow Borough had the opening opportunity. A scuffle on the pitch causing a stoppage, as the official tried to identify the issue. Whilst tensions between the teams were rising. Possibly affected by the drastic heat during the match. Restarting the match with a throw, which went backwards. Continuing the competition. A close midfield battle was contested. Neither side giving their opponents a way through, including a few lunging tackles. Heating the tempers further, dealt with as another drinks break approached. Proving to be at a vital time. Leaving supporters wanting more action, as they saw in the first half. Finally adding a fifth. Harrow Borough found the back of the net late on. After a cross from wide was delivered, deep into the London Colney half. Meeting an advancing player inside the six-yard box. Seeing out the pre-season friendly in a convincing fashion. Virginia Water away being the borough’s next outing.
