Repulsive Reigate!

After beating a high-flying Gosport Borough side midweek Harrow took a break from league action. This afternoon the Reds travelled down to South Park fc, for a FA Trophy fixture. Our host today sit ninth in the Isthmian league going into this game. In their previous outings the Reigate based team had mixed results. Drawing away to Hanwell Town, where drama on the pitch took over. Getting two red cards that day. Before visiting the Powerday Stadium they beat Tooting & Mitcham in the build-up, allowing them to two five goals in the process. Something we will have to had to prepare for.

When the game began it was clear to see the playing surface was not up to standard. This made it hard for both teams to create a pattern of play, as passes could only be read at the last second. Holes around the pitch made playing long balls difficult too. Not to mention the gaping spots missing in the goalkeeper’s area. Harrow Borough started the brighter of the two sides, attacking with pace and flair. Deji Owoeye beating his man time and time again. Combining with full back James Taylor the players managed to keep the sparks back line under pressure, angering their tall centre half. Causing him to have a few abusive words with this afternoon’s officials. Dernell Wynter broke the deadlock in the Reigate during the nineth minute. Goal coming from a South Park throw in, which the guest countered from. Slotting it away from close range whilst holding off his marker. The visitors almost doubled their lead through frank Kieta, but the midfielder missed an open goal. Shot went across the face of the goal. Breaking away just before half time Dernell nearly picked off a second.

Plenty of chances for Harrow Borough at the break. Sadly, not been put away, this could have ended up a cricket score. On a pitch that wouldn’t be allowed in Sunday league. Frank Kieta’s miss standing out. South Park struggled to get out of their own half. When the second half started the host seemed to pick up, much more focus then the first period. Even striking the cross bar from an open goal effort. Now one a piece in that aspect. Pushing up for an equaliser they struck the post soon after, before narrowly missing the goal past a lacking guest keeper. As time went on Harrow looked more and more out of the game. However, attention turned for away fans when star man Kunle Otudeko got a nasty injury. One that could potentially rule him out of the big day at Portsmouth. The Middlesex side managed to see the game out in a repulsive Reigate.

In conclusion it was not the best performance from both teams. Chances missed equally, which would have easily made this a goal fest. Would have been nice after seeing the pitch’s condition. Glad we don’t have to play here too often. Victory for the Borough sees us progress to the next round, hopefully a surface awaits us. Wishing Kunle all the best with his recovery.
