Queens Park Rangers Women hosted Norwich City Women this Sunday afternoon. Playing in W12 for the first time, the R’s saw a bumper crowd in the stands for their final league fixture. In a season which has seen the club go from strength to strength on and off the pitch. When the sides last met, today’s home team walked away winners from the nest. Goals by Brogan Moore and Erin Pope sealing the points in a narrow victory.
Starting this afternoon’s affair. Kasha Petit created space for herself inside the box. Seeing the opening effort comfortably caught by the keeper, within a minute of kick off. Shooting from distance. Erin Popes hopeful shot on seven minutes was also caught. Trying again, Ellen Wardlaw found free room on the right-hand side. Going just wide of the post. Coming close to finding a first goal, Erin Pope sent the ball goal bounds on thirteen minutes. Chance built up by brilliant play from Brogan Moore. Weaving through Norwich City defences Kasha Petit guided a pass to Wardlaw. But the striker was unable to put it past the keeper, having played twenty minutes. Breaking the deadlock Grieves scored on thirty-two minutes. Wonderful corner delivered into the box, finding the head of the captain. Keep up the momentum the Rs almost doubled their lead. Curling a free kick, Ellie Searle narrowly missed the target.
When play resumed the guest were quick to Equalise. Snelling the scorer. Smacking the back of the net, after an impressive strike inside the box. Despite Lucie White getting a touch to the ball. Looking to get back in front, Melanie Hall had a chance. Twisting around she opened a gap to shoot. However, Williams tapped the ball over the bar. Still searching for a second. Supporters saw Sue Kumaning smash her attempt into the side netting, from inside the area. Not long later the score line increased. Having another go, Sue Kumaning found the back of the net. A dazzling run to confuse defenders as she twisted and turned inside the box. One of the best finishes you’ll see, giving QPR Women a winner on eighty-eight minutes. Top left hand corner left shaking.
In conclusion, a perfect end to a long season. Wonderful occasion for all involved. None more so than this brilliant squad. Fantastic attendance, as the R’s finished above local rivals. After receiving promotion at the start of the campaign.
