Queens Park Rangers Women welcomed Caversham United Women to the Powerday Stadium for a FA Cup Fixture. Kicking off at 2pm our visitors made the short journey with a coach full of travelling fans, something that contributed to the great atmosphere around the ground. It was lovely to finally see some away support this season. Raising awareness for breast cancer this afternoon meant my Cancer has no colours flag made its first outing of the year. Going into the game the goats won their previous match against Wraysbury fc thirteen goals to nil. Progressing in the Berks & Bucks trophy.
A good start for the home side as they enjoyed most of the possession early on. Eshe Davies had their first shot of the afternoon in the eleventh minute, but it was palmed away by the Billy Goats keeper. Our opposition went up the other end minutes later and had an attack of their own, Erin Pope making an easy save. Continuing her run as make shift keeper. Another chance for Eshe Davies after this, going over the bar unfortunately. Making a breakthrough for the host was Melanie Hall. Now the club’s top scorer. Good teamwork by the Rs to create this goal, keeping the ball high in the Caversham area. However, our visitors almost equalised immediately. Shot flew over the bar to the relief of home fans. Ellie Searle grabbed a second for QPR in the thirtieth minute. From wingback she cut into the box, after taking it up the field. Sliding us further ahead. She should be playing for England!
Rangers ahead at the break. Looking very good this afternoon. Vicky Grieves making a vital tackle late on to save the R’s, something she has done all season. The true meaning of captain leader legend. Personally, would keep her at the club as long as possible. Eshe has been electric going forward with her pace. All guns blazing from the break Kasha Petit got action underway once more. Great work between the Rs to find her before her shot. Caversham got close in the sixty fifth minute as they saw a shot fall into the path of Melanie Hall, who now is between the sticks. Replacing Erin Pope. Brogan Moore managed to get on the score sheet two minutes later, confirming the win for the pride of West London. A terrific finish from the young Scottish international. In the last minute of the game substitute Demi Edwards got a fourth. Beating the defender to find space, then beating the keeper with a well hit effort. Great run from the dynamic forward. Credit to our club.
In conclusion it was a fantastic afternoon at Hanwell Town. Queens Park Rangers Women put on another great show, with plenty of goals for the fans. What a brilliant squad we have. Special mention to Caversham united, who were brilliant visitors today. Wishing the club all the best for the future. Couldn’t have asked for a better set of away fans. Onto the next round of the Fa cup for the host…
