QPR Women V Saltdean Women

Only 48 hours after our dramatic cup win the QPR Women’s team were back in action with Saltdean women being our opposition this time out. For this friendly, R’s manager Steve Quashie decided to kick off with a rotated starting eleven. The fixture was played at the impressive Brunel University Stadium facilities. With the match scheduled to kick off at 7:45pm on Thursday, the squad were left with very little time to process the excellent events from earlier on in the week before having to focus their attention once again on facing a difficult club.

Kick off came at a delayed time of 19:50 due to preparations taking longer than expected, however Saltdean did not let this phase them, scoring in the first five minutes. Soon after the game began, QPR were under pressure allowing our opposition to take the lead from a well delivered corner. Not long after the first goal the Tigers netted once more thanks to a brilliant strike. Another excellent finish followed creating a sizeable gap between the sides. Half time could not come soon enough for the West London team! Going into the break the R’s began to improve with more passes being made successfully, giving the side an opportunity to find a way back into this challenging game.

Right after the break had finished, QPR Women picked up their first goal of the evening, giving a youthful R’s team hope of pulling a result from this fixture. Saltdean quickly replied with a goal of their own by finishing from a very close range thanks to a scramble in the box. After a period of not much action, the young QPR player scored her second goal of the night, leaving the management team with difficult decisions for upcoming games. An impressive performance to say the least. Only seconds later Saltdean widened the gap. The score now stood at 5-2 to our guest.

Full time approached soon leaving spectators thoroughly entertained here at the Brunel University Stadium, with both teams finding the net on more than one occasion. A huge amount of effort from the young QPR women’s team deserves applause when playing such a demanding and challenging tie against well experienced opponents. A performance to learn from.
