Powell looks promising!

Queens Park Rangers women headed to the Hive for their third pre season fixture. Taking on London bees, having lost on their previous visit to the ground. Going down by a single goal that afternoon.

This evening’s affair got underway with a kick off from the host. Latching onto a long ball, they found themselves in the R’s final third. Offside call from the official ending the attack. Perfectly passing out wide, Jo Blodgett picked out Gabi. Who soon saw her advances interrupted by a resilient fullback. Breaking the deadlock on eight minutes, London Bees had a lead. Picking up possession from a loose ball. The host number seven finding the net with a fabulous finish. Searching for a second. The home team worked their way out of the corner. Creating room for a long shot, which did not cause any danger. Sliding a slow pass through the travelling centre backs. The host had another, once more scored by the seven. Vicky Grieve unable to get it away as it rolled over her foot. Trying to find a way back into the game, Katie McLean launched a ball up the field. Going out for a throw in deep down the home team’s half. Beating Brogan Moore for pace as she chased it. Ambitiously attempting a scorpion kick, London Bees came close to increasing the margin. Having spent a lot of time in the visitor’s area. QPR women looked on as an over-the-top pass made it wide. The player failing to make it count, giving away a goal kick. Increasing the gap. London Bees took their scoring up to three. Placing a precise shot into the bottom corner, at the far post. Still searching for more. A fourth almost came before the break. Host number seven hitting the underside of the bar

Going into the second half. QPR Women looked significantly better. Changes from the bench having an inspirational effect, allowing them to perform better as a team. Nygaard Parsons narrow missing the target shortly after the break. Stunning their opponents, who looked lazier than the opening exchanges. Working wonderful with her fullback. Mya Francis Powell had a magical effect. Comfortably controlling the speed of the game, as she commanded from the back. The R’s second next chance came from Milly Cutler. Running through on goal, she was unfortunate to not find the net. A mistake from Dan Maloney offered the opposition an opportunity. Resulting in a corner, after a heroic save from the young shot stopper. Back-to-back catches caught spectators’ eyes as Mya carried on shining. Keeping the score level, in what was a poor match overall. From a R’s perspective. Batting away two more chances, London Bees grew as the game went on. Spotting space in the final third. Cutler cut into an attacking area, carrying possession, passing to a teammate. Blissfully beating her marker. Flying out of her area. Mya Francis Powell made a powerful punch. However, was not able to keep out the host fourth finish. As she scored directly from a corner. Despite a touch unable to push it away. Terminating any chance of a comeback. The home team slit the speed of the game. Playing it around the back, tiring visiting attackers. Finding ways to see the fixture out. Awarded a penalty, QPR women were given a life line. Missed. Summarising what was a shocking showing against higher opposition. Targeting the top corner, Alice Curr curled an effort, just missing the goal. Proceeded by a hopeful hit which was never going to trouble the keeper. On the final whistle a fifth went in, as the crowd began to filter out.
