With a convincing win against Stevenage Women on the opening day of the FA Women’s National League season under their belt Queens Park Rangers women headed to the Efes stadium to take on Kent United. Days before this fixture the R’s found out they will face Enfield Town Ladies in the league cup on the 12th September at the Towners home ground. Leading up to this fixture R’s fans found out that key player Mollie Dench is out injured. I’d like to take this chance to wish her all the best with her recovery, and we know she will be back stronger than ever. A credit to our club!
For our first away game of the league season QPR women seemed to be in control, however we were unable to Put the ball in the net. Quick snappy passing allowed the visitors to make their way up the field and put pressure on Kent United keeper Greenwood. Early on the West London side missed a penalty through Erin Pope as she saw her shot hit the post. Sue Kumaning was fantastic as usual. Lucy white suffered an injury in this period which left supporters at the Efes stadium concerned, luckily the promising keeper was able to get back up and carry on. Hope it was not serious. At half time it was clear to see the Rs had a lot of the ball thanks to short quick passing, but failed to make the chances count. More than once. Demi Edwards almost broke the deadlock in the closing stages of the first half when she lifted the ball over the Greenwoods head but sadly couldn’t slot it away.
When the second half started, we saw more of the same. Queens Park Rangers Women continued in the positive manner they ended, showing how good a job Steve is doing. Erin Pope opened the scoring this afternoon when she broke through the middle before beating the defender and scoring above the keeper’s head. Well-deserved after the miss from the spot. Keeping up the tempo she soon after got her second of the game. This time the Ball was crossed in before the Rs player converted. But it wasn’t as easy as it seemed, after a panic in the box the guest gave away a penalty of their own. Kent United scored. As a result of this our host looked eager to get back into the game, something that QPR men did yesterday against Barnsley. A Diving header from Erin Pope who launched herself at the ball getting herself a hat trick in this fixture. Incredible performance!
In conclusion the team did well in what was an overall good performance from the R’s. The fixture was tricky in periods, but they managed to silence the oppositions advances. Largely to the credit of Georgie Lewin. Congratulations to the team on another win. Special mention to Katie Mclean and Hayley Peacock for always being positive voices in the stands, lovely spending time with you both once again. So glad you two are at the Rs!
