Nothing Northwood!

With very few matches on this evening I was left with little choice. Something that is unusual on a Tuesday night. Heading to Northwood Fc meant my first visit of the season to the Civil Engineering stadium, where the host welcomed Bracknell Town for a league fixture. Before this game the home team had only won one game all season. Leaving them rock bottom of the league, eighteen points behind their guest. Sitting in second the Robins have dominated their way to this standing. Including a five-nil thrashing of Chipstead.

Bracknell started on the strong foot. Temi Ewaka opening proceedings with a free header, unlucky to not put the visitors ahead within seven minutes. Poor cross from them minutes later kept the score level. David Tarpey broke the deadlock in the twenty first minute thanks to a good finish, shot lifted over host keeper Purdue after having beaten his defender. Bracknell deservingly ahead. Coming close again a minute later Rees almost doubled the Robins lead, but it was Anthony Cheshire who got a second. Headed in from a corner in the twenty fifth minute. Northwood continued to get dominated on their own pitch for the remainder of the half. Great saves from Dan Purdue in the home teams net kept the score line respectful, preventing two excellent finishes going in. Northwood yet to create a chance this match.

Straight after the half time break it was Bracknell continuing to go for a goal. Pressing high in the fifty third minute almost handed them a third. Receiving the ball from his team mate Ryan Avery was pushed, no foul given questionably. Only piece of action from the host so far. Northwood grew into the game from the sixtieth minute, forcing visiting keeper Wheeler into a huge save. This did not last for long as a diving effort from Tarpey looked certain for goal, shocking that Bracknell do not have their third by now. Stepping up again in the seventy fifth minute was Dan Purdue to prevent another goal. The full-time whistle came not long after to the relief of home fans. Another matchday, another loss for their club. Relegation looks certain now.

In conclusion this evening’s match was another example of why Northwood Fc are in a dire situation. On the pitch they side showed very little reason why they deserve to stay up, or even be competing with the likes of Bracknell Town. That is saying something. Off the pitch, the visit to the Civil engineering stadium was positive and enjoyable for a neutral. Expect the inflated admission price. A miracle if not two is needed to save the wood now…
