Queens Park Rangers Women travelled to Hanworth Villa this Sunday afternoon. Taking on Hounslow Women, for the first time, since the split. Their host yet to string a run of games together since their relegation to division one.
Starting this West London derby brightly. Melanie Hall brought the ball forward, being quickly caught up with by the home sides shot stopper. Who came rushing out of her goal. Resulting in a corner. Which the visitors converted from, after an excellent delivery by Laura Hennessy. Jo Blodgett finding the back of the net. Giving the guest an early lead in the opening exchanges. Not long later, the Rs had another. This time through Laura Hennessy. Leathering her shot past the keeper at incredible pace. Continuing their creative patch. QPR women saw Kasha Petit placed in the middle, perfectly passing her the ball. Just beaten to it by the host keeper. Amongst pressure of two overpowering centre backs. Opening their account for the affair. Hounslow had a half chance, hitting high and wide from a corner. New Rs shot stopper Shayla Burgess stood still. Battling brilliant Nicole Leys laid off a through ball. Meeting Melanie Hall, as she hopped into the final third. Trickling her shot past the heavily worked keeper. Before the break was upon us the Rs added a fourth. Club legend Kasha Petit finding the back of the net. Tapping in from close range. Cross coming in from Nicole Leys, who left the fullback for dead.
Getting the second half underway. Hounslow had the first chance. A long throw into the box, failing to be touched. Landing to Vicky Grieve on right hand side. Allowing her to roam up the pitch in acres of space. Eventually being brought down by two players who double teamed her. Sliding in superbly, the star at the back bobbed the ball away, ending a home side sequence. Advancing admirably into attacking positions. Laura Hennessy looked to pick out Leys with a long ball. But the right back couldn’t connect, due to it being hit too hard. However, the remarkable right back got her deserved goal. Scoring simply past the deflated keeper. Up the other end, Hounslow had another go at goal. Comfortable catch for the travelling team keeper. Missing by inches. The Rs could have got their sixth within quick succession. Spectators watched on, with the ball going wide. Getting the ball in the net, the visitors thought they’d finally got one more. However, it was ruled off, as the referee didn’t spot the linesman allowing a substitution. Emilia Nygaard Parsons unfortunate to not make an immediate impact of the bench. Resuming play the home side smacked one into the post. An awkward angled shot, coming close to giving them hope. Shayla Burgess couldn’t keep control of the ball. Still searching, QPR women saw a second goal disallowed. A late touch taking the decision to offside. Starting a flurry of finishes. The excellent Erin Pope added the sixth. Scoring from a free kick, following a foul from range. Making a mark having come off the bench. Seconds later a seventh and an eight went in. Emilia Nygaard Parsons navigating back-to-back finishes. Before completing her hat trick, before half time. I’m a game which should have been an even higher score line.
