On New Year’s Day Northwood received the news that their bank holiday fixture against Chalfont St Peter is postponed. This is due to the covid cases within the visitor’s squad, leading them to be unable to field a side. Making up for the lost match the wood organised a tie against local rivals Hendon for Tuesday night. Being played on their 3G surface at Silver Jubilee Park. Ahead of this game, this evening’s host lost to Kings Langley. Whilst the guest was defeated by Hanwell town. Setting this up to be an interesting affair.

Northwood began the game on the strong foot. Instantly taking the ball under control, and maintain possession. Something their opponents did themselves when they managed to find it at their feet. The wood looking to prove a point it seemed. It was the visitors who took the lead, great passing to create the chance. Making the most out of their movement around the pitch. Perfect attacking advances to discover the opportunity. Shot taken well, finding the net. Straight after play resumed Hendon responded. Going up the other end to level the score. Worked backwards from the corner of the pitch, tonight’s host made a chance. Smacking into the bottom corner of the Northwood net. Joe White the scorer. Putting them ahead for the first time this match was Cain Keller. Coming from a great save by their keeper, the play made its way up the field. Eventually landing to the player for a wonderful strike. Well done to the individual.

A break coming at the perfect time for Northwood. Having faded away as the half progressed, and Hendon pilling on the goals. Ryan Youngs effort cancelled out. When play kicked off again Northwood came out better once more. Scoring to level the result. Deserved after their attempts, which could have changed the contest as a whole. Alexander more finding the back of the net. However, there was one more goal to come. Converting with his head the Hendon youngster put them in front. Celebrations showing what it meant to him, especially so late on. Credit to the corner taker for the delivery.

In conclusion this evening’s game proved to be a fantastic watch for a neutral. On field action making up for a lack of atmosphere in the stands. Minimal crowd of spectators, expected with the late announcement of the fixture. The cold also playing a role in keeping people away from this mid-season friendly.
