Merthyr grab a pint and a point!

Harrow Borough hosted Merthyr Town on non-league day. Which was created by reds supporter James Doe, who was in attendance for this fixture. On what proved to be a perfect day for football. On their last outing, the martyrs lost late on to Gosport. Conceding in the ninety first minute. Handing three points to the Hampshire based side. On their travels, Harrow were beaten away to Tiverton. A missed penalty proving to be the vital difference between the sides.

Jack Evans found Owen Evans to start of this afternoon’s match. The linesman quick to flag for offside, as the ball got away from the player. A long ball up the field by the martyrs found Reffell behind Harrow defenders on sixteen minutes. Fantastic defending from the host keeping him out, as they look to get a foot in the game. Matthew Harris was next to have an opportunity. Cutting inside from wide, before smacking his effort past the post. As we approached the final ten minutes of the half. Delivering a cross at the back post, Curtis Hutson narrowly missed the advancing Yakubu. Calmly being caught by fan favourite Josh Strizovic in the home team’s net.

At the break both sides were evenly matched on the scoreboard. Merthyr performing brilliantly, surprising spectators inside the warm ground. A super Strizovic save being the only thing keeping it levelled. After he reached out magnificently, to tap away a Reffel wonder strike. When play resumed Harrow broke the deadlock, Ezra Ikebuasi finding the net. Following a deflected free kick. Which Jaimie was unable to keep out, at the second time of asking. Leaving the host leading after sixty minutes. Searching for an equaliser Hutson fired over the bar on seventy-one minutes. Thanks to a ball out wide from Reffel, who gave him space to cut inside. Shooting from outside the box Harrow looked to increase their lead. Narrowly missing, as a result of Jaimie Cogman reacting sharply. Merthyr Town equalised in injury time to take a point from West London. Reacting well to an over-the-top ball, Reffell powerfully wacked the ball into the net.

In conclusion the result was a fair one. Both teams performed well, but struggled to get a handful of goals. Making the match an edgy affair. A point shared being deserved by both parties. Thank you to Merthyr town supporters who made the journey, and represented their club brilliantly. Always a pleasure to see home and away. Wishing all associated with the club every success in the future.
