MCLEAN-SHEET.

Queens Park Rangers Women embarked on their second away day adventure of the season this afternoon. Making the trip south, to Carshalton in Surrey. Facing off against fan owned football club AFC Wimbledon Women.

The home side managed to make the opening opportunity. Breaking away at speed, they saw their initial effort bravely blocked by a QPR body. Bouncing back towards the centre circle for a counter attack. As Ellie Searle excellently exploded into space, out on the left-hand side. Emilia Nygaard Parsons picked out space just outside the box for an attempt. Narrowly missing the target, with the ball rolling reluctantly across the white line. Reacting well to the passage of play. Rosie Russell ran through for the host, unable to get a chance away, being closed down quickly. From a corner the visitors went in front. Chloe Gunn getting the first goal of the game, following a fabulous finish over the keeper. The ball coming back out of the box before a shot allowed a remarkable rebound. Scoring on her debut for the club. Cutting inside, the Wimbledon women’s player wacked a shot over the bar. Shortly followed a slip up at the back by Katie McLean in the ranger’s goal. Luckily, recovering well to avert the oncoming danger. Strong save pushing the pass out for a corner.

Starting the second half. A chance for the guest got proceedings underway once more. Emilia Nygaard Parsons couldn’t plop her pass into net. Missing from close range, as the disappointment was visible on her face. Not long later Ellie Searle had the ball in the back of the net. The referee seeking assistance from his linesman, as confusion carried on the playing surface. Offside the call despite a handful of home players being in appropriate areas. Robbing the Rs of a well-deserved second, in a difficult fixture as it is. A large leap allowed Katie Mclean to continue her marvellous performance. Catching comfortably, giving both sides a moments rest. In what was a hard-fought affair at the War Memorial ground. Carrying on her clean sheet, Katie made back-to-back brilliant blocks, either side of her goal. Slapping shots away at all hights and angles. Stunning supporters inside the stadium. Showing why she is at this level, and signs of potential to play higher. The women’s super league a possibility. On eighty-four minutes Chloe Sampson was substituted onto the pitch. Facing the club she supports, her employers and most importantly lifelong friends.
