Hammer to the Hart!

Spurs women hosted West Ham women in a women’s super league fixture. Taking place at the Hive, Sundays London derby was a must win for both sides. Each team needing the points for different reasons. Going into this match, the host have not played since their victory against Everton. Whereas the guest defeated Brighton in their last encounter. During their previous meeting the Hammers walked away narrow winners. Dagný Brynjarsdóttir goal in the sixty-nineth minute separating them.

Getting this match of to a quick start was Tottenham Women. Ayane forcing the hammers keeper into a save, only four minutes in. Going close a minute later Ayane had a second opportunity. But her shot was well held by Leat this time round. Action died down following this. Until Neville sent a shot just wide of the post, in the thirtieth minute. West Ham yet to reply. Edging ever nearer before half time, Ayane continued on fine form. This time sending a well hit effort over the bar. Which proved to be the last piece of action in the half.

At half time Spurs were the significantly better side. Very unlucky to not be ahead. Their visitors struggling to create a tempo, let alone have a chance at goal. Disappointing evening so far for the hammers faithful. Things went from bad to worse for the East London side, as they conceded a penalty. Foul on the edge of the box to give it away. Ayane finally getting her goal. Scoring from the spot. Fifty-five minutes in West Ham were reduced to ten, Cissoko receiving her second yellow of the game. Giving her side an even harder task. Who fell to a dominant spurs side for the remainder of the game. However, against all odds the visitors scored. Longhurst finding the net in injury time. Leading to wild celebrations from the player, ending up right in front of sky sports cameras.

In conclusion Tottenham women bottled a fixture they were dominating. Drastic decline in performances late on handed their opponents a point. West ham showing fantastic determination to carry on, despite being a player down. Longhurst’s effort sparking celebrations for West Ham supporters at the hive.
