Jial-breaking!

Tottenham Hotspur Women hosted Charlton Athletic Women at the Hive stadium this Wednesday night, competing in the continental league cup. In their last outing the whites lost narrowly to Brighton and Hove Albion. The visitors beat Bristol City that afternoon, maintaining their one hundred percent record at the oakwood. Goal in the last minute to seal the points. Going into this fixture both sides have performed well this season. Charlton sit fourth in the Fa Women’s Championship, whilst their host occupy third in the league above. Two fellow London sides just in front of them. One of which I’ll be seeing tomorrow.

Starting the game brightly Spurs women challenged Charlton’s keeper with an effort in the tenth minute. Players combined well to feed the ball up the field, unfortunate to not convert. Again, the host played well as a unit as they saw a header from a cross rattle off the post. Molly Bartrip leading her team with excellence. Josie had a chance for spurs that went just over the bar, having received the ball from green on the left-hand side. Pilling on the pressure the visitors seem to be in trouble. Cummings stood firm in the guest net, holding her side in the game time and time again. None more so than her wonderful save in the thirty fifth minute.

At half time Tottenham were well and truly in control. Unlucky to not be ahead, and more so to not be clear of their opponents. Very attacking from the start. Charlton only had one chance of note in the first period, a shot which flew miles over the bar. The host defence on excellent form. With the second half underway spurs continued to dominate. Jial broke the deadlock for the home side, slotting the ball under the keeper. Addison seems to be the centre of the white’s inspiration. Kit was the next to have a go at goal. The match fizzled out following this as the north London side protected their win.

In conclusion Spurs Women deserved their win. Charlton were effective in their passing, but did lack an end product. Score line could have been much worse for the guest. Congratulations to the home side on the victory, showed real spirit in this game. Hope to be back at the hive soon.
