Heartbreak by Hayes!

On Tuesday evening Hayes and Yeading made the short journey to Earlsmead. Taking on a Harrow Borough side who found the net six times against Truro City. James Ewington managing to get three goals, in a thrilling affair. Setting this match up to be an interesting derby day.

The match started evenly. Both sides creating chances, but neither able to find the net. Dembele having the opening opportunity for the host. Sending a shot just wide of the post, having stolen the ball from the defenders’ feet. James Ewington saw similar fate come twenty-three minutes. Breaking through the left-hand channel, the forward sent a shot narrowly wide. As did Mosses Emmanuel for the visitors. Making the most of a pass he received from Omar Rowe. Hayes came forward again on thirty-one minutes. Good passing from Charlie Wassmer found Francais Martey, setting him up for a shot. Which was pushed away by Harrow keeper Josh Strizovic. Harrow managed to carve out one more chance before the break. Scooping his shot over the bar, Frank Kieta kept the score level.

At half time this derby day was a heated affair. The guest showing great skill throughout the team, helping to create a handful of chances. Only being stopped by Josh Strizovic in the home net. Harrow had a few opportunities of their own, but they came to nothing. Hayes slightly the better team going into the break. Hayes started the second period brighter. Winning a free kick in the forty-eight minute. Kadell Daniels putting his effort to Harrow for an easy clearance. With chances still not happening, play quietly resumed till the seventieth minute. When George Moore sent a shot from distance flying over the bar. Proving to be the final piece of action before the deadlock was broken. Charlie Wassmer scoring in the eighty seventh minute. Converting from inside the six-yard box, after a header fell to his feet from a throw in. Handing all three points to Hayes and Yeading.

In conclusion Harrow Borough were narrowly defeated by a high-flying Hayes and Yeading team. One that were unbeaten for much of the season. Performing well, the host almost held out till full time. But the quality showed as the ball struck the net. Something only champions can maintain without a lapse in concentration.
