This Saturday Harrow Borough hosted Merthyr Town at Earlsmead Stadium. The Martyrs making their second out of three trips to the capital, within a week. After awful and inconsiderate planning by the Southern League.
Starting this afternoon’s affair. It was Merthyr Town who had the better of the opening exchanges. Taking the ball out of play twice, attempting to advance down the right-hand side. Shortly before the host had their first shot. Creating a chance just outside the box. Coming close the guest could have got the opening goal. Cross into the area, attacked away by Sonny Hart on the line, under pressure from Ricardo Rees. Ping pong passes deep in the home sides half prevented anything of note occurring. Neither side able to see out a pattern of play. Breaking the deadlock. Ricardo Rees rolled the ball into the net, having rounded the keeper. Poor back pass causing chaos for Harrow. Handing their visitors, the easiest goal they are ever likely to get. Up the other end. Harrow were awarded a penalty. Powerfully punched past the post, by Jaimie Cogman. Keeping the score as was. Before a break halted play. The match resuming with an underwhelming Martyrs free kick. Doubling the tally closing in to half time, Tom Hadley had a screamer slap into the net. Weaving his way around the box. A brilliant batted effort ended up in the back of the net.
Getting the second half underway. It was the guest who got the game going once more. However, the host dealing with the danger in better fashion. Finding space to set out counter attacks. Closely followed by a visitor’s corner. Not causing any problems. Perfectly dealt with by the Borough back line. As time ran out, the teams were hard to separate. The middle of the pitch consuming most of the play. Fouls becoming more common. Angers starting to rise. Inside the final minutes. Harrow Borough had opened their account for the day. Delivering destined for the back post, bobbled in by Jaeden Sharman. Proving too late to mount a monumental recovery.
