Harlow Town Ladies made the journey to the Powerday Stadium this Sunday afternoon. Looking for three vital points, the visitors were narrowly beaten by Hashtag United during the week. Having equalised through former R’s player Andie Dickens on eighty-two minutes. A striking free kick all it took to hand the YouTube team a victory against an impressive Harlow side. Ahead of the match, manager Ruddy said "Always look forward to playing QPR. A team that looks to play the right way and no matter the result footballs the real winner, just as it was few weeks ago at our place. Expecting a tight game again and we will do our best to come away with three points but we know it will be a tough challenge." When asked about his thoughts on the match.
The first chance of the afternoon came to Ellie Searle on ten minutes. A brilliant pass from Hall made its way through the visitor’s defence, but the full back was only able to force the keeper into a save. Brogan Moore then fired over the bar as she struck a free kick. Going just wide of the goal, Kasha Petit had a shot on twenty-seven minutes. Once again Melanie Hall played the role of provider. Edging closer to taking the lead, the R’s had another chance with five minutes to go. Match day captain Laura Hennessey found space before letting off an effort.
All equal at break as the teams went into half time. Back in an attacking position, Ellie Searle sent the ball through to Moore. Who fired an attempt at the defender. QPR Women had the ball in the net come fifty-nine minutes. But the official had waved for offside, after a looped shot found its way into the goal. Breaking the deadlock Melanie Hall found an opener. Thanks to Demi Edwards picking up the ball in her own half, and carrying it up the field. Assisting with a low pass across the box. Doubling the host lead, Laura Hennessey added a second. Finishing from close range after connecting with a loose ball. Harlow Town pulled one back on ninety-three minutes. Scoring directly from a free kick. However, there was one more to come. Francis Weir finds the net on the sixth minute of injury time. Tapping home from close range, after a pass by Searle.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all associated with Harlow Town Ladies for visiting us for this match, and wish everyone a safe journey home. As well as good luck for the rest of the season. Truly an impressive team, doing things the right way. Survival is more than deserved for the efforts displayed. Hope to see you all again soon!
