The next team to travel to Earlsmead was Hanwell Town. Harrow Borough hosted the Geordies after beating FC Romania on Saturday, getting a 3-2 to win in Cheshunt. Going into this fixture I spoke to the visitor’s manager Chris Moore who said” Really looking forward to the game it’s always competitive between the two sides and is sure to be an excellent workout for both sides before the season starts” when asked what he thought going into the fixture. Having left the Reds recently Brendan Matthews returned to the ground as a member of tonight’s oppositions squad. Joining him on a trip to South Harrow was ex Borough players Harry Rush and Gianni Crichlow.
During the opening exchanges both teams seemed evenly matched, a very good Hanwell Town performance from the beginning of this evening’s fixture. With both teams finding it difficult to open up the others defence chances were far and few between. George Moore found the net for the first goal of the game. Picking up the ball with confidence the winger scored from distance with a shot that went over the keeper’s head, creating a loud cheer by all fans in the ground. Half time then approached with the guess being the better team, despite the score line. Georgie Moore’s wonder strike still being spoken about by reds fans.
After the break the Geordies seemed to come out all guns blazing. The ball was knocked into the box and Thomaz found it the other side, getting Hanwell Town equal in this game. The travelling side won the second ball in Harrows defensive third letting Ogo put the visitors ahead here at Earlsmead Stadium. Ogo got his second of the night with a fantastic strike into the top corner, ball swept across the floor before being hit very well by the talented player. A Simple ball that Harrow failed to clear ends up with Hanwell getting their next goal, starting to put a comeback out of side. Ogo is proving to be the difference between the sides! Another Geordies goal followed this evening. No way back now. Game ends in a convincing Hanwell win after disgusting performance from the home side. Should be doing better against lower league opponents, especially considering scores were ahead at break.
Thank you to Hanwell Towns manager for taking time to answer questions ahead of this fixture. Wishing all involved at the Geordies all the best for the upcoming season, and we hope to see you again soon. Fantastic opposition all round!
