With only a day rest Harrow Borough were back in action, playing Hertford United at the Mark Hall Sports Centre in Harlow. When asked how he felt about this fixture, the opposition manager said "It will be a good experience early in pre-season, it’s about getting fitness this early in July". He then added "It’s important to play higher levels as it’s a good test and mark up, lets them show their best as the players express themselves" in reply to questions about how this fixture will set them up for the season.
Once more Harrow began the first half all guns blazing, in full control of the game. Deadlock was broken by Kunle Otudeko who scored another fantastic strike. Excellent effort continued for the remainder of the first half giving the Borough lads the opportunity to find the net for their second and third goals for the afternoon. The second goal came from a similar position as the first, ball lifted from midfield and dragged up the pitch before rifling into the net. A penalty kick was the method for our third goal of the afternoon, well placed by new forward James Ewington. Areas to improve for Harrow has to be the organisation at set pieces and marking the opposing side.
Subs for Harrow saw Ezekiel Williams come on giving the Reds an injection of pace. Brendan Matthews also made his way onto the pitch hopeful of starting his scoring this pre-season. From kick off, Harrow looked the significantly better side, a much more focused team than against Virginia Water. Quick passing across the floor and in the air allowed the lads to create chances without any worries of conceding. Frank Kieta grabbed the first goal of the second period, simply slotting the ball into the back of the net, shortly before getting his second. The next scorer for Harrow was this season’s captain Ben Tricker. Picking up the ball from a rebounded free kick the young defender managed to find the net for his first goal of pre-season. A seventh later followed giving the visitors an easy run out this afternoon, with many supporters’ hopeful that future fixtures prove to be more challenging.
In conclusion, this game proved to be very easy for the Middlesex side; leaving the team no competitive practice for future fixtures. Embarrassing refereeing added to the events of the afternoon for both sides. Special mention to Kunle who is proving to be a real talent for us!
