Flackwell through on pens!

Beating Burnham allowed the young Geordies to progress to the next round of the league cup. Waiting for them, was a visit to Wilks Park. Taking on Flackwell Heath under 18s. Leading up to this game Hanwell under 18s saw victory against CB Hounslow. Winning by five goals to one.

Hanwell kicked off this affair by immediately handing the host a throw in on the half way line. Which went straight out, for the Geordies first throw in only a moment later. Winning a free kick soon after created their opening chance of the game. Delivered deep into the Flackwell heath box, but just going past the post after making contact on the way. Leaving the ball to go out for a goal kick. A pass back to Olaf Normantowicz allowed him to send a ball through the centre of the pitch. Falling to a host player, who’s shot was blocked by Conal Cassidy. Before the home side picked up a loose ball. This time sending a pass out wide, setting up a shot which flung up high in the air. Comfortably caught by the Hanwell shot stopper on its way down. The young Geordies saw the same fate with their next chance, as Jenom Nyam sent the ball into the box. Staying high up the pitch Kai Zini fired into the keepers’ hands. Calming down the speed of the game, when the keeper clinched on to the ball. In possession again, Kai ZIni passed the ball to Halim Bangura. Who was unable to beat his man for a second time having got past him initially. Still looking for the opening goal Hanwell remained on the front foot. A heavy pass from the back going out for a host throw in. Following this, Flackwell Heath took control of the game. An over-the-top ball was blocked by the visitors back line. The referee awarding the host a free kick in the process. Which the home side put into the box, but Conal Cassidy was able to see it out of the box after strong defending. Creating a poorly hit shot by Flackwell leading to a throw in. Counter attacking from the situation, Jenom Nyam broke away down the flank. Forcing the keeper into a low save. Keeping their opposition out, Cameron Hughes was next to block a Flackwell Heath shot. Using his body to put the ball out by the corner flag. As we approached half time Jenom Nyam broke through the home sides midfield. Targeting a pass at Sonny West, however the attempt was quickly blocked. Going forward, Hanwell won a corner. After Cameron Hughes charged down the wing. Pushing the keeper to bat away his cross into the side netting. Eager to take the lead Telumi Oladokun headed on a throw to Jenom Nyam. Firing wide of the near post at an awkward angle. Keeping up his impressive performance Cameron Hughes found himself in the Flackwell Heath box. His first effort was blocked, before falling to him once more. Passing it backwards the fullback found a Hanwell player. Who was quickly brought down earning the Young Geordies a free kick on the edge of the box. Up the other end, Flackwell Heath picked up on an error from the Hanwell defenders. Shooting low and wide of the post. The final chance of the half came to Sonny West. Connecting with a Jenom Nyam cross in the six-yard box. Narrowly missing the target amongst pressure from a defender.

The second half resumed with Flackwell Heath sending a long ball into the Hanwell box. Conal Cassidy calmly controlled possession, before sending it out wide to Cameron Hughes to go forward. Another long ball followed for Flackwell Heath after regaining possession. This time taking it out wide, in order to put a cross into the box. Neither side able to reach it as it rolled out for a goal kick. Making space in the final third, Romero Smart Tull sent Sonny West through. His pass just evading the advancing runs made by his teammates. Putting in another cross, Cameron Hughes found Sonny West in the box. But the player’s touch sent the ball just wide of the post. Trying a long ball of their own, Olaf Normantowicz’s pinpoint pass landed to the feet of Mayor Okeowo. A quick turn around his marker lead to the following through ball to go astray. A collision in the centre of the pitch caused concern before the home side took the lead. The referee waving play on, as the ball bounced to a host player. Who drove forward at speed, letting him shoot from distance. Looping over the travelling keeper’s head. Giving Flackwell Heath a goal advantage. High pressing from Hanwell showed intent to level the score, forcing the home keeper into an error. Which saw an attempted pass result in a throw in. After coming on as a substitute Romi Roomi looked a positive influence for his side. Carrying the ball forward, he attacked the Flackwell half. Proving to be handful for host defenders to deal with. Having a range of shots which made the keeper work hard. Winning corners and throw ins for the remainder of the half. Controlling a diagonally played ball, Romi Roomi charged at the fullback. Cutting in to send a shot in the area. Flackwell Heath’s keeper palming the effort away from his goal. Setting up a second attempt that went over the bar. Doubling their lead against the run of play Flackwell Heath added a second. Converting from close range, the player tapped home a low driven cross. This proved to turn the tide in the match. As Hanwell went on to win a penalty soon after. A clever pass made its way up the field, forcing the host keeper to come running out of his goal. Leading to a foul inside his box. Halim Bangura scoring from the spot, handing the visitors a way back into the fixture. A stoppage in play occurred when a laser pen from the crowd halted the game. Officials from the home club having to make their way over, to deal with the incident before play could continue. As the game was drawing to a close the guest was able to level the score. Adam Rahman’s strike equalising for the young Geordies, after picking up on a loose ball. Leaving the keeper still as the ball flew past him. Sending the game into penalties.

Hanwell were first to step up from the spot. Scoring with a well-placed effort to start the shoot-out. Flackwell also finding the net with their first attempt, despite Olaf Normantowicz getting a hand to the ball. Scoring their second, Victor Jarrett gave the visitors a lead. Before the home side equalised once more. Ecstatic celebrations followed the Geordies third spot kick. As the player went to celebrate with the group of supporters along the side of the pitch. However, only a moment later Flackwell made it three all with a Panenka penalty. The first miss came on Hanwell’s fourth spot kick. Firing the ball onto the crossbar. Moments before Hanwell’s final shot rattled off the bar and into the keepers’ hands. Sealing Flackwell Heath’s spot in the next round.
