Excellent Ellie!

For their second away trip of the new year Queens Park Rangers women headed to Cambridge United. The game being played at St Neots Town, after confusion of the fixture’s location dispersed. The R’s sat fifth in the table before this game kicked off. Having beaten local rivals Actonians on Wednesday. Katie Akerman grabbing a late goal, to confirm six points from six. Our host this afternoon have been winless since their victory over Stevenage. Way back in October.

Starting this afternoon’s play was a lively QPR side. Flying out of the traps they had the first chance of the game. Unfortunately, not able to find the back of the net, despite Ellie Searle best efforts. Going forward once more the ball ended up at the Left-Wing backs feet. Beating her marker, she delivers a cross. Without anyone being able to tap it home. Holding possession well, Danielle and Vicky stood firm at the heart of the R’s defence. Preventing Cambridge United from creating chances. Their attempts failing to make Katie McClean work. Coming closet from a corner, the host smacked a ball into the box. Which was dispatched by Vicky Grieves easily. Who went on to break the deadlock in Saint Neots. Heading in a QPR corner, sent in by Laura Hennessey. Breaking away again, and still leaving her marker stunned. Ellie Searle bombed down the left wing. With ten minutes till the break, QPR had another. Demi Edwards making the most of the opportunity created out wide. Tapping home on the goal line. Sparking an aggressive reaction from the home sides bench.

When half time arrived, the Rs were ahead. By two goals to nil. Having played perfectly against their opponents, isolating them around the pitch. After the game got underway once more it was quickly stopped. Georgie Lewin going down from a knock. Visible panic rose in the stands as concern for the players welfare grew. Demi Edwards second goal of the game came from the next passage of play. Picking up the pass outside the box, she looped it to the side of the keeper. Scoring continued as Melanie Hall added a fourth, without any response from Cambridge. Letting her shot fly into the net, via a deflection from the defender. However, the Rs came close to conceding. Foul inside the box handed the host a penalty. But Lucie White managed to keep it out, having come on as a sub. Ending off this afternoon’s masterclass.

In conclusion it was a good away performance from QPR women. The team worked well together, and dominated from the start. Cambridge showing signs of relegation. Failing to do anything of worth within ninety minutes. Off the pitch. Cambridge United women demonstrated poor behaviour. Abusing officials and spectators. Foul language being heard throughout. Making their demise more enjoyable…
