Last minute arrangements saw Rayners Lane host their under 18 counterparts. The fixture taking place at Tithe Farm, in front of a crowd of mainly family members. A handful of ground hoppers also venturing to the venue. One armed with a professional camera.

Rayners Lanes experienced players engulfed area out wide, an offside call cancelling their efforts. Having their first chance. The under 18s side came forward. Firing into the advertising boardings located behind the goal. Back in cruise control, today’s team in yellow were away, batting a shot into the youthful runner recovering at right back. Accelerating at incredible speeds. Rayners Lanes under 18s winger shot down the pitch, surprising the fullback with his speed. Reaching the box before being halted in his tracks. Losing control of the ball at a crucial time. Keeper able to boot it away. Finding themselves at an awkward angle, the first team forward fired wide. Shortly proceeded by a clang off the crossbar. Finally picking out a spot in the back of the net. A shot was slid in low. However, this did not start a period of domination. Rushing around after the restart the U18s player made a marvellous movement. Missing narrowly from near the box. It didn’t take long for another goal to come, first team footballers scoring. Leaving the centre back for dead sparking an audible outburst. A third trickled in before the teams went in for a break. Back-to-back crosses couldn’t cause problems, but a fortunate rebound fell in the right place.
Getting the second half underway was free flowing football from the first team. However, it was the u18s who had the first shot of the period. Smashing a free kick high and wide but caught by the keeper. Closely followed by a fiery effort ending in a goal. Going the way of the senior side. Curling past the keeper, a powerful finish plunging a fourth. Trying to get back into the game. The young lane side went on the attack. Unable to break down the back line, who batted the ball away repeatedly. Making a strong save at the other end. Rayners Lane’s under 18s keeper kept the ball out of his net. Setting up a second shot, smashing onto the top of the bar. Finding a fifth as the match ran down. Rayners Lane first team showed no mercy. Simply shot slotted away, into the empty net. Playing progressively, it only took a handful of minutes to have another go. Plucking out the post, to the tiring under 18s relief. A sixth went in before full time.
