Friday night saw me visit the Emirates stadium. Arsenal under 23s took on Brighton and Hove Albion under 23s in a league fixture, with the gunners currently sitting on level points as their guest. Before this match the host drew with Manchester City’s squad at their Etihad campus. Battle of the airlines. The seagulls came into this game off the back of win against Leicester city, Andrew Moran getting the winner in injury time.

Starting off tonight’s proceedings was Brighton and Hove Albion who had an early header hit the bar. Arsenal didn’t seem ready. Focusing on their main man the gunners forced the ball to Balogun, in ways disrespectful of the other players on the pitch. Even chances came for both sides. Karl Hein did well in the reds net, making a few fantastic saves. Defensively the host stood firm. First team hopeful Balogun gave the home side the lead. Scoring on the rebound from a penalty, he had his first. Been very vocal this evening so far. Energetic midfielder Salah gave the young gunners a second. Fantastic team work up the field. Full back charging far to provide the pass, one that was perfectly timed. Something they’ve worked in training, take note other teams. Including mens sides. Not naming names.

Brighton was unlucky to not get a goal by the interval. Creating their chances early on, and almost paying off. Arsenal started poorly, but woke up after the penalty. Concerning for the manager. Balogun seems to be the centre of attention, which could prove an issue. Seagulls hit the woodwork with a header in the opening minute giving spectators a shock. When the second half started Balogun scored again. Second attempt from the spot, converting this time. Cool as you’d like. Arsenals defensive control continued as they managed the game. Injuries became common as players went down for both sides, worrying signs. Officials added four minutes to the match before ending it.

In conclusion the host get the win after a poor showing. Two penalties coming to their rescue. Brighton played well, but didn’t find an end product. Showed real determination. Well, done to the young seagulls for their efforts tonight!
