Empowered Enfield!

After a week away Queens Park Rangers Women are back in action. The R’s made the trip to North London to take on Enfield Ladies, in the league cup. Before this match our host lost 4-0 to the internet club in their previous encounter. Leaving them ninth in the table as things stand. Ahead of the game Towners captain Nuala McKevitt had a chat with Enfield Town Ladies TV and mentioned the injuries that currently affect the squad, stating that the starting line-up was likely to feature development squad players.

Kicking off our cup campaign was a very even match in the opening exchanges. Both teams looked ready for a cup run, and in the hunt for an early goal. Playing across the channels Enfield seemed to be a side who enjoy controlling possession. Timing their passing well with little error. QPR Women played their football through the middle. Kasha Petit being the midfield general. The Rs took the lead this afternoon’s game, chested down before slotting the ball away, a positive start from the visitors. Enfield equalised after a period of back-and-forth football. Breaking through their oppositions lines before putting a calm shot in the net. Our host then took the lead soon before half time. From an offside position Klesha Darroux rounds Lucy white and converts her chance, fans left stunned at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium. Getting her second of the game.

Going into the interval QPR Women were unlucky to be behind. The team played well and created many chances. Some closer than others. Injuries during the period affected Rs mentality, leaving opportunities for our host to capitalise on. A comeback was possible. When the second half began Rs faced an issue as their keeper went down injured, needing to be replaced by Katie McLean. After coming on the former hornet performed well, however was not able to keep the Towners from scoring. Sliding the ball across the box gave Enfield their third for the afternoon. Simple goal from our host. Hard challenge now to recover in this game, and process in the cup. Once more the host broke past Rs defenders. Katie made a save, but it came out for a rebound in front of the attacking player. Four one the score.

In conclusion QPR Women see themselves out of the cup. Losing to a more dominating Enfield side. Back to league matches now, with Cambridge City away as our next future. Thank you to Enfield for having us this afternoon, and all the best for the season. Thank you to Hayley and Sam for the company once again. Great people!
