Just like the first team Queens Park Rangers U23s have been on a forced break. Making their return to the pitch this afternoon, as they welcome Middlesbrough U23s to Harlington. In their last match the R’s lost to Swansea City. Back on the 7th of December. A disappointing defeat by two goals, Forrester and Leverett the scorers. Our visitors also failed to get a win in their previous encounter. Going down by four goals to two against Blackburn, at their home ground.
The match got off to a horrific start for the West London side. Conceding within thirty seconds of the game kicking off, fantastic burst of energy from the visitors. Calum Kavanagh having a delightful strike at goal. R’s players stunned. Doubling their lead on the fifteenth minute Fletcher stole the ball from Max’s feet. QPR’s young keeper taking far too long to make a decision, allowing the attacker to have a simple finish into the net. Shocking thinking from the shot stopper. Scoring again seven minutes later, Borough had a third. Volleyed effort into the back of the net. Middlesbrough miles better than their host. Not even a contest to be had within twenty-five minutes. Adding a fourth on the fortieth minute. Willis putting the ball away from near distance, having received a pass across the box. But the North East side were not done yet. Getting a fifth in injury time, of only the first half. Kavanagh’s second of the match. Tapped past Max Little, at snails’ pace.
Thankfully for home supporters the period came to an end. Disastrous, disgusting and embarrassing three ways to describe it. QPR looked the worst they’ve been all season. In front of other members of the squad, who have just returned from loans. What a show to come back to. When play resumed Middlesbrough searched for more goals. Shame it could not be said about the host. Pushing late on, they came close a few times. One fantastic save from the QPR keeper the highlight of the half.
In conclusion the first half was the worst QPR performance I’ve seen in a long time. Well and truly battered on home soil, and from the very start. Not a single positive to extract in the opening forty-five. However, the second half improved. Managing to keep a clean sheet. A little to late though. Congratulations to our guest for their empathetic win, deserved after looking marvellous on the day. Wishing all associated with the club a safe return to the north east.
