Eleven to Ellen!

Very little rest was Queens Park Rangers Women’s reward for beating Bromley. Three days after their dramatic win, the Rs were back in action. Finally playing a league fixture after a long time away. Enfield Town are opponents this evening. Last time the sides met the towners won convincingly, disposing of their visitors with ease. Four one the score at the Queen Elizabeth stadium. Before this match the North London outfit did not play on the weekend, handing them a massive advantage for this game.

Young R’s keeper Maya started the match with a fantastic save. Shot taken by Littlechild, but the collage keeper got to it. In the sixth minute the host went up the other end and found the net. Melanie Hall getting on the scoresheet two games in a row, as she finished off an Ellie Searle cross. A combination that’s been working perfectly this season. Doubling the lead only four minutes later she got her second. Big role from Alice Curr created the chance, helping the R’s further the difference. The visitors got back in the game on the twentieth minutes. Clearing the bar with an effort. Coming close once more Enfield put QPR Women under pressure, Kmita having a wide attempt. Back in control of the game Laura Hennessey had a late go at goal, only just missing.

Winning at the break. Three points on the board as things stand, and vital for catching up with other sides in the league. Starting positively QPR women had an immediate chance in the second half. Fired over by midfielder magician Erin pope, someone who has been fantastic this season. Credit to the squad. Unfortunately, the guest found a way back into the fixture. O’Leary tapping home a shot after receiving the ball from Littlechild on the left-hand side. Sixty-one minutes in. Carrying the R’s up the field after a difficult period was Brogan Moore, putting the opponent’s keeper under pressure. Queens Park Rangers supporter and player Ellen Wardlaw made her way onto the pitch in the eighty fourth minute. Something I personally was very excited for, and hopeful would carry on for the remainder of the season. Not much again occurred in the dying moments.

In conclusion QPR Women narrowly won this match. Better first half than second. Key player Ellie Searle pulling up injured, worrying for all involved at the club. Wishing her well with the issue. Special mention to Ellen Wardlaw on making another appearance for the club. Couldn’t be happier for the player, having spoken to her during the time off the pitch. More of the same please!
