Edgy ending!

Harrow Borough finally welcomed Hartley Witney to Earlsmead. On their third attempt to fulfil the fixture. After the initial date was postponed, despite the pitch being in a playable condition. The second agreed date being cancelled, for reasons unknown to spectators.

The opening twenty minutes failed to provide any goal mouth action. With most of the play being based around the centre of the pitch, as both sides battled for the ball. Creating some good movements when in possession. Taylor headed the visitors first chance over the bar, having received a pass from Cole. Before the host quickly replied with their initial attempt. Williams in the visitor’s goal rushing out to clear the ball on twenty-five minutes. Moments before making a simple save following a shot from Bryan. Going forward again, Hartley found a way out of their own half. A clearance inside the box removed any danger for the borough. Within sixty seconds, Ewington broke the deadlock on thirty-four minutes. A smart pass around the defender from George Moore sent the forward through. Coming close to quickly adding a second, Ewington was ruled off side.

At the break there was a lack of action inside the box. A single goal from James Ewington being the only chance of significant worth. The teams’ midfields looking to be evenly matched this afternoon. When play resumed, it was the Hampshire based side who had the first chance. On fifty-seven minutes Hartley went close by Campbell. Coming off the outside of the post, and going behind. Josh Strizovic guarding his goal with excellence. Staying on the front foot, Hartley came close on sixty-three minutes. Taylor failing to apply the finishing touch to a ball across the box. Former borough player Drage fired over on seventy minutes, after Harrow cleared the ball. Keeping themselves in the game despite the heavy pressure. Increasing their lead against the run of play, George Moore added a second for the host. Rounding the keeper after cutting into the box. Leaving eighteen minutes of time left on the clock. Impressing again, Strizovic made a brilliant double save. One that deserves to be replayed over and over again. Denying the first attempt from Allen, before following up on the second by Edwards. As we entered the final ten minutes the guest had one back. Harry Taylor found space to head home, connecting with a corner. Chasing an equaliser Hartley Witney dominated the final five minutes. A range of players having a go at goal, but Josh kept them out. Helping his side onto three points.

In conclusion Harrow scored two good goals, however it was thanks to the keeper they won the match. Another remarkable performance for the loan player. Someone I hope will continue his spell in West London, for a long time to come. A credit to our club beyond belief.
