Earlsmead excellence!

When originally planned Harrow, Borough were set for a return to Earlsmead in a game against Uxbridge FC, however a positive covid case in their camp meant they had to pull out of the fixture. Leaving them playing against AFC Hayes instead. Stepping in last minute new opponents Athletic Newham FC filled the gap, giving supporters a game to go to. Thank you to all at the club for doing so! Kicking off at 1pm the squad aimed to give the fans a positive result after the embarrassing and disgraceful events of Thursday night against Spelthorne Sports. Based in Plaistow the kings were founded in 2015, competing in the Essex Senior League. With a very similar badge to Athletico Madrid, it was clear to see who their loyalties are within the Spanish capital.

Kicking off the first game back at Earlsmead Harrow Borough looked much improved from the last few fixtures. More organisation in the team lead to the Reds playing better as a unit, and preventing chances for the East London side. Constant running from new forward James Ewington proved to difference this afternoon as the host were able to put Athletic Newham’s keeper under pressure. As the half progressed the wide Borough players seemed to target the channels, delivering pin point crosses nearly every time. Unfortunately, none were finished. Ewington put Harrow ahead at home later on when he picked up the ball in the attacking third before slotting it past the keeper! Fantastic saves were also made the new Harrow goalkeeper.

When half time approached fans were well elated by a much better performance from the Reds. Significant improvement in passing, and attacking play allowing us to dominate the game. A Well-deserved goal for the prolific striker. However, the second half did not continue the same, with our opposition finding their feet in the game. Athletic Newham found a way back into the game. A ball delivered into the box caused a scramble before coming out the visiting player, a fantastic strike hits the roof of the net leaving spectators stunned. Anderson being the goalscorer. Not long later the home side were back in front with a lovely slotted shot that rebounded from the keepers save.

As time passed it was game over at the Earlsmead stadium, Harrow finally getting a win. Excellent performance all round by Borough. Goals for the host coming from Ewington and Nana. Drastically better than the last few fixtures. Thank you once again to Athletic Newham for coming down at such late notice. Wishing the club all the best for the season, and the future. Now onto QPR!
