Drawing at the death!

Queens Park Rangers women were back in action this evening. Travelling to Enfield Town Ladies, at the second time of asking. Having had a lengthy break from the playing surface. Their last fixture being seventeen days ago, when they beat Harlow Town Ladies. Goals coming from Melanie Hall, Laura Hennessey and Jessica Francis- Weir that afternoon. When the sides last met, the R’s walked away winners. On what was a close affair in West London.

Producing a flying start, Enfield were quick to take the game under control. Strong setting up from the host allowed them to win back possession when they lost it. Putting pressure on their visitors, who failed to really get going. Looking to get a foot in the match Ellie Searle carried the ball out wide. Delivering in a cross, which failed to land to a teammate. Trying again the dynamic fullback lifted the ball up the field. This time being caught by her opposite number. As the game went on, the home side had chance after chance. Katie McLean in the guest net keeping them in the game. Producing three brilliant saves. Battling for the ball the Rs won a free kick just past the half way line. Initially being headed by Melanie Hall, who couldn’t apply a finishing touch. Continuing a positive period of play Katie Ackerman found herself in the box. Crowded by Enfield players, a shot went just wide. Enfield showing great determination when they found the ball out wide. Firing an effort to the left of the QPR goal.

At the break the West London club were very fortunate to be level. Katie McLean’s stand out performance keeping them in the game, having made a handful of fantastic saves. A real impressive showing from the show stopper. When play resumed, Ellen Wardlaw found herself deep in the Enfield half. Forcing the host keeper into a save. Staying up the field, Ellen had another chance. This time going wide. A third soon followed for the forward as the keeper met her at the end of a long pass. Ellen Wardlaw eventually broke the deadlock. Scoring a screamer. Curling the ball past the keeper, and through defenders. After beating the fullback with skill. However, his proved to be the end of the Rs dominant period. As Enfield woke up and played much better following the kick off. Further testing Katie, who kept them out till the ninety fourth minute. Making three more remarkable saves along the way. At the death the host got a lucky goal. Initially hitting the crossbar from a free kick, the ball dropped back into the area. Foul on the keeper being ignored as the home team lapped in from close range.

In conclusion Enfield have to be the most fortunate team in the country this evening. Only finding a way through after fouling the QPR keeper, in what was the last kick off the game. More than deserving to go down.
