This bank holiday Monday Harrow Borough made the short trip to Hendon FC. Taking on our local rivals the Reds sit just above the relegation zone as we kicked off this afternoon, Hendon being in the final drop spot. Goal difference keeping the sides apart. Last time out at Silver Jubilee Park it was the Borough who walked away with a win, a narrow 1-0 victory courtesy of Marc Charles Smith. Now player and assistant manager of the U23s team. One key point to notice between that outing and todays was the huge difference in the squad. For that fixture Harrow Borough had only seven of their current players in the line-up available, with Shaun Preddie having returned recently. A club legend!
My run of early goals continued. This time out Harrows shocking defender converted past his own keeper, giving our host an early lead. Their only chance of any importance. Lewis Cole aided Harrow Borough’s attempts to get level with his good performance. New addition Leo joined him in the centre of the park, having been a Queens Park Rangers earlier in his career. When the half came to an end reds supporters could have described it as a terrible start as a result of the Biller mistake putting them behind. Should never play football again. However, the visitors Improved as George Moore grew into the game. A wonderful talent to have at the club. Alfie Cain came on at left back after the goal scorer went off injured, leaving him filling into a position so different to his normal. As a result of the goal Harrow started playing a more direct game. George more carrying the team forward giving Kieta chances at goal. One player who showed ambition. Harrow fans Confident of getting back into this match. Desperately needed too.
When the teams made their way on to the pitch for the next forty-five, they seemed evenly matched. Neither side making any real chances for themselves. Michael Bryan looked to be the main threat in these exchanges, showing his excellent skill. Role model for others in the team. Injuries played a huge role in squads’ selection, with many key names not available to be picked. Ben Tricker and James Taylor were spotted strolling around the ground this afternoon. Time running out created a more urgent atmosphere in the away side, forcing them to take more risk when making moves up the field. Shaun Preddie controlled this very well as captain. Partnering him at the back was James Mansfield, who was hardly noticed in the game. Apart from when he was getting spun in circles by the opposition attackers. Refereeing was disgusting this afternoon, lost control of the match very early on. Found himself fumbling all over the pitch. With tensions rising as a consequence of senseless official’s decisions players ended up in a brawl. Risking a fight breaking out big time! Both managers watched on in confusion as the men in change couldn’t break up the two teams. Shouldn’t referee again.
In conclusion Hendon walked away with all three points in a dire one nil victory to the host. Harrow don’t look ready for harder teams, and could see scores hit double figures this season. On the other hand, it’s not the fault of the management team. Who are doing a great job with what they have! In the build-up to this game Harrow Borough manager struggled with illness, so it was good to see him back in the dugout. Glad he is making a recovery. Coaches Jesse and Darren did well to fill in for him during the week, something we should be proud of them. Two incredible blokes.
